Performs a wide range of repair and maintenance duties related to roofing and plumbing with the main focus on roofing and gutter systems. Plans and coordinates repairs of roofing systems including but not limited to asphalt shingle slate rubber copper built-up and ballasted roofs. Also performs routine plumbing/heating maintenance and repair work. Participates in on-call rotation in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Five (5) or more years of experience in the roofing trade
Valid U.S. drivers license
Ability to be medically qualified for respirator use
Relevant combinations of education training and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with slate roofs
Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of roofing trade equipment and tools
Working knowledge of basic industry trades including masonry carpentry and metal work
Ability to read write and perform arithmetic functions
Ability to use all hand tools and operate all power tools and equipment (i.e. metal fabrication equipment band saw torches power snakes generators compressors)
Ability to work on ladders scaffolding and personnel lifts
Ability to work in a team environment and perform independently
Requires excellent customer service skills
Representative Job Duties:
Plan coordinate and oversee the installation and repair of roofing systems including asphalt shingle slate rubber copper and ballasted built-up roofs. Repair and waterproof skylights as needed.
Install and repair pitch pockets roof curbs hatches flashings gutters roof drains and down leaders.
Collaborate with contractors to identify and address roof problems or deficiencies as needed.
Perform minor plumbing repairs maintenance and installation work to support campus buildings.
Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) on roofing systems gutters and drains working with the Shop Lead and Supervisor to develop PM procedures based on manufacturer recommendations and usage history.
Shift:
Standard business hours with occasional evenings or weekends to support campus operations and maintenance needs.
Travel:
Local travel between campus locations only
Driving:
Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use
Starting Salary/Rate:
Expected hiring range: $27.00 $32.00 per hour with starting pay based on experience skills and overall fit for the role.
