THE COLLEGE: Northern Essex Community College (NECC) serves about 5000 credit students each semester on two campuses located in the beautiful historic Merrimack Valley region of northeast Massachusetts. Our suburban Haverhill campus sits on 106 acres near Kenoza Lake and features a Technology Center and an award-winning Student One-Stop Center. Our urban campus in Lawrence occupies a number of buildings in the heart of downtown. Most recently we have constructed a new 44000 square foot health technologies facility the Dr. Ibrahim El-Hefni Allied Health & Technology Center. Job Description:

POSITION: Full-Time Associate Dean of Nursing (Associate Dean): Division of Health Professions; Lawrence Campus (El-Hefni Allied Health and Technology Center - 414 Common St.); 37.5 hours per week; Non-Unit Professional Position.

SUMMARY: The Associate Dean of Nursing serves as the full-time Program Administrator for all programs offered in the Nursing Department (Certificate in Practical Nursing and the Associate of Science in Nursing). Note: the Associate Dean of Nursing shall not teach courses at NECC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Program Compliance and Accreditation

  • Fulfill all regulatory obligations required by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) for Nursing programs
  • Ensure ongoing compliance in practice and documentation with all BORN and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) requirements
  • Coordinates visits by accrediting and regulatory organizations including providing requested documentation
  • Prepares and submits required reports to BORN and ACEN
  • Responds to requests for information from BORN ACEN and any other regulatory bodies

Faculty Supervision

  • Evaluates faculty members in accordance with MCCC (Day and DCE) requirements
  • Assigns faculty members to teach courses in the Nursing Programs
  • Provides mentorship to faculty members to support their teaching quality and professional growth
  • Provides support to faculty members as they develop new curriculum
  • Leads searches for new Nursing faculty members; engages faculty in the process
  • Provides leadership for faculty in assessing student achievement of course and program learning outcomes
  • Supports faculty in implementing strategies to support student success
  • Fosters and environment for innovation in nursing education

Curriculum

  • Leads faculty in the planning development and implementation of systematic evaluation plans. The plan shall include but need not be limited to measurable expected levels of achievement evaluation methodologies frequency of evaluation responsible persons(s) aggregated and trended data and other findings actual outcomes and resulting actions
  • Determines necessary development maintenance and revision of the programs based on the systematic evaluation plan
  • Ensures curriculum meets ACEN and BORN requirements and aligns with current practice in the field
  • Follows institutional curriculum review and approval procedures

Program Governance

  • Participates in the governance of NECC and the Division of Health Professions as appropriate for the accomplishment of the goals of NECC and Nursing Programs (e.g. NECHE accreditation College Assessment Day)
  • In conjunction with the faculty assists in the development and implementation of policies which are consistent with the policies of NECC or with differences that are justified by the outcomes of the Nursing Programs
  • With support of the Dean of Health Professions and other Academic Affairs leadership participates in strategic planning and vision-setting for the Nursing Programs
  • Ensures alignment within the Nursing Programs mission philosophy and outcomes and across the NECC institutional mission and outcomes (or with differences that are justified by the Nursing Programs outcomes).

Program Operations

  • Develops and monitors departmental budget through established NECC procedures
  • Develops course schedule for Nursing Programs collaborates with supporting departments
  • Collaborates with the Dean of Health Professions and NECC Grants Office personnel to develop grant proposals in support of Nursing Programs
  • Represent NECC Nursing Programs with employers and community partners to advance opportunities for the programs faculty and students
  • Represents the Nursing Programs in the recruitment and maintenance of quality clinical education sites
  • Collaborates with Admissions and Enrollment staff for student recruitment and programs admissions
  • Collaborates with offices supporting student retention and completion including Academic Advising Career Services and other areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an earned graduate degree in nursing
  • Possess a minimum of five years full-time nursing experience with at least three years full-time experience or its equivalent in nursing education either:
    • A nursing education program designed to prepare a graduate to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse; or
    • A post-licensure graduate nursing education program
  • Hold a current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing
  • Experience collaborating across multiple departments
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills across multiple constituencies
  • Develop and maintain competence appropriate to administrative responsibilities including but not limited to:
    • Orientation and mentoring to the administrator role
    • Knowledge of M.G.L. c. 112 74 through 81C and 244 CMR
    • Participation in professional development in nursing education such as certification continuing education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supervision experience
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population

Additional Information:
