The Impact You Will Have
Coupe Health is hiring a Head of Engineering in Eagan MN. Head of Engineering will be the technical leader responsible for building and scaling the platforms that power Coupe Healths member employer and provider experiences. This position will lead a talented team of engineers architects and support specialists to deliver reliable secure and performant systems that serve members across all states with ambitious growth ahead. Working in close partnership with Product and Operations leadership this role will modernize our technology foundation reduce dependency on legacy vendor solutions and establish the engineering excellence that enables Coupe to move faster than our competitors. This roles technical vision and hands-on leadership will directly shape our ability to deliver innovative healthcare experiences while maintaining the security and compliance standards our industry demands.
The ideal candidate has 7 years of progressive engineering experience including 3 years in engineering leadership with deep handson expertise in building and architecting modern software platforms. This is a highly technical role requiring direct ownership of system architecture core design decisions and active engineering contribution to a full rebuild of a SaaS AIenabled product. The ideal candidate has strong experience with cloudnative microservicesbased architectures dataintensive systems and technologies such as AWS Python and React and is comfortable setting technical direction while remaining close to the code. They also bring the leadership ability to set engineering culture develop talent and translate product strategy into execution while representing the technology vision with customers partners and internal stakeholders during a demanding highimpact growth phase.
Your Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and manage engineering architecture infrastructure and application support teams to provide strategic direction and foster a high-performance culture.
- Establish engineering practices standards and processes that enable high-velocity high-quality delivery
- Own technical delivery across the product portfolio ensuring on-time execution against roadmap commitments
Architecture & Technical Strategy
- Define and evolve the technical architecture to support current scale and future growth
- Lead the transition from legacy vendor-dependent systems to modern in-house capabilities
Cloud Infrastructure & Operations
- Own the AWS infrastructure strategy ensuring optimal use of cloud-native services
- Drive reliability engineering initiatives including monitoring alerting and incident response
Security & Compliance
- Partner with Security and Compliance teams to maintain HIPAA compliance across all systems
- Implement security best practices including PHI protection encryption and access controls
- Integration & Partner Connectivity
- Lead technical integration efforts with TPAs PBMs and health plan partners
Required Skills and Experience
- 7 years of relevant professional experience and 3 years in engineering leadership. All relevant experience including work education transferable skills and military experience will be considered.
- Deep hands-on expertise across modern technology stacks including cloud-native architectures APIs and web/mobile platforms
- Extensive AWS experience including compute (EC2 Lambda ECS/EKS) data services (RDS OpenSearch DynamoDB Redshift) and integration services (API Gateway EventBridge SQS/SNS)
- Strong background in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipeline design
- Experience with modern development languages and frameworks (Python React or similar)
- Demonstrated success building and scaling engineering teams through periods of growth
- Track record of delivering complex data-intensive applications in production environments
- Experience working in regulated industries with strong understanding of security and compliance requirements
- High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field
- Healthcare technology experience particularly with health plans claims processing or benefits administration systems
- Experience with Health Cloud Salesforce platform or similar healthcare CRM systems
- Background in data platform engineering including ETL pipelines data warehousing and analytics infrastructure
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7 FHIR EDI 834/837/835)
- Experience leading vendor transitions and platform migrations with minimal business disruption
- Knowledge of PHI tokenization encryption strategies and healthcare-specific security frameworks
- Experience supporting SOC2 and HITRUST certification efforts
- Exposure to machine learning and AI integration in production applications
- Prior work at high-growth companies balancing speed with technical sustainability

Our hybrid approach is designed to balance flexibility with meaningful in-person connection and collaboration. We come together in the office two days each week most teams designate at least one anchor day to ensure team interaction. These in-person moments foster relationships creativity and alignment. The rest of the week you are empowered to work remote.
Compensation and Benefits
$152900.00 - $210300.00 - $267700.00 AnnualPay is based on several factors which vary based on position including skills ability and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
