Manager AI Strategy & Governance
Role Summary
The Manager of AI Strategy & Governance will build and run the First Line of Defense program for managing AI initiatives across U.S. Banking. This role does not require deep AI/ML technical expertise instead it requires a curious adaptable leader who is excited to learn AI tools apply humanintheloop oversight and build practical governance processes that enable safe and effective AI adoption.
You will stand up the U.S. AI inventory coordinate intake and assessments and implement controls that ensure responsible use of AI across business teams.
Key Responsibilities
AI Governance Program Development
- Establish and maintain the U.S. AI Governance framework aligned with enterprise Model/NonModel standards and Responsible AI guidelines.
- Define lightweight practical processes for AI intake review documentation and monitoring with human oversight.
AI Inventory & Intake
- Build and maintain a centralized inventory of AI tools use cases and automation solutions across U.S. business units.
- Manage intake and classification workflows directing use cases to the appropriate governance path.
First Line Controls & Risk Management
- Implement humanintheloop review steps and operational controls that ensure safe use of AI tools.
- Track adherence to documentation data quality monitoring and change management requirements.
- Escalate risks and coordinate remediation actions when needed.
Training Adoption & Change Management
- Help business teams understand governance expectations and how to use AI tools responsibly.
- Provide guidance on when human oversight is required and how to apply controls.
- Promote healthy adoption of AI tools anchored in transparency explainability and accountability.
Program Operations & Reporting
- Maintain dashboards and reporting for inventory completeness risk posture and governance outcomes.
- Support crossfunctional working groups across Risk Technology Legal Compliance and the business.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong program process or risk management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new tools adapt quickly and improve workflows using technology.
- Excellent organization communication and documentation skills.
- Comfort working with crossfunctional stakeholders and managing ambiguity in emerging programs.
- Familiarity with governance compliance operational risk or model risk concepts (not deep expertise).
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Exposure to AI tools (e.g. copilots automation tools analytics platforms).
- Experience in financial services risk management or regulatory environments.
- Basic understanding of responsible AI principles (fairness transparency human oversight).
Salary:
$88800.00 - $165600.00Pay Type:
SalariedThe above represents BMO Financial Groups pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location skills experience education and qualifications for the role and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Groups expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Groups total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives discretionary bonuses as well as other perks and rewards.
