Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Duties include but are notlimited to:
- Conducts Level I II and III inspections at portable or permanent scales to determine compliance with motor carrier laws size requirements hazardous materials regulations equipment and motor vehicle inspection violations as well as compliance with the North American Standard Driver/Vehicle inspection procedures and highway hauling permits;
- Inspects drivers his/her logs load manifests and/or related documentation;
- Under supervision of a uniformed officer sets up portable weighing operations anywhere within assigned area observes the scale reading on commercial vehicles and takes appropriate action;
- Examines vehicle registration documents and drivers licenses to determine compliance with international registration plan regulations and drivers licensing laws;
- Places commercial vehicles in an out-of-service status when violations have been identified;
- Conducts preventative maintenance audits at trucking terminals;
- Conducts post cash investigations;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six months of experience in the mechanical repair maintenance or inspection of commercial motor vehicles.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in the mechanical repair maintenance or inspection of commercial motor vehicles on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional experience in law enforcement activities including vehicle inspections on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given toapplicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clearand specific information on your application regarding your qualifications inorder to receive credit.
1. Formal(technical) training in the mechanical repair maintenance or inspection ofcommercial motor vehicles
2. Experienceworking at the Federal State County or Local levels of government
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in this classification must possess and maintain certification asrequired by State Transportation Article Title 25 Subtitle 111 (h)(2) RespectivePowers of State and Local Authorities Title 49 Sections 107-108 and 300-399of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation and as required by theCommercial Vehicle Safety Alliance guidelines.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
2. In accordance with Public Safety Article Title 2. Department of State PoliceSection 2-204 (b)(6) of the Annotated Code of Maryland candidates for positions in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening a physical examination and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications willbe considered for this classification. Therefore it is essential that youprovide complete and accurate information on your application. Successfulcandidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIEDBETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for atleast one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by thehiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.
