Automation Engineer (Field / Water & Wastewater)
Location: Office based in Carlow (candidate preferred to be situated in the Leinster region)
The Opportunity
We are hiring for our client a major contractor delivering large-scale water and wastewater projects in partnership with Uisce Éireann. Due to continued project wins they are seeking an Automation Engineer to join their team supporting projects across Ireland.
This is a field-based role with significant site travel offering exposure to critical national infrastructure and long-term project pipelines.

The Role
As an Automation Engineer you will:
- Design and develop PLC/SCADA control systems for water & wastewater projects
- Program and commission PLCs (Siemens S7) and HMI systems
- Support installation testing and commissioning on client sites
- Troubleshoot and maintain control systems VSDs and motor control circuits
- Produce technical documentation including FDS and O&M manuals
- Work closely with project teams to deliver upgrades and system improvements
- Ensure compliance with SDLC processes and change control procedures
The Person
- 35 years experience in automation controls or maintenance
- Strong PLC experience (Siemens S7 preferred) and SCADA exposure
- Background in industrial utilities or process environments (water experience desirable)
- Electrical trade or relevant engineering qualification
- Comfortable with regular travel to sites across Ireland
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on-site
