We are hiring a Field Service Engineer Semiconductor Equipment (PVD / Vacuum Systems) in San Jose CA to support advanced thin film deposition tools used in the production of hard disk drives and memory technologies.
This is a customer-facing field service role supporting high-vacuum semiconductor equipment including PVD systems robotics and multi-chamber cluster tools. You will be responsible for installation troubleshooting maintenance and technical support at customer cleanroom sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Install maintain calibrate and repair semiconductor PVD and vacuum equipment
Troubleshoot electrical mechanical hardware and software issues in the field
Perform preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime
Support installation of new systems at customer sites
Analyze technical data and coordinate with global engineering teams
Document service activities and maintain accurate field reports
Manage spare parts inventory and recommend replacement components
Provide training and support to junior technicians
Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers when needed
Provide on-call and off-shift technical support as required
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required (Associate or Bachelors in Engineering/Technical field preferred)
12 years of experience in semiconductor equipment or field service engineering
Hands-on experience with PVD or semiconductor vacuum systems
Experience with multi-chamber cluster tools and robotics strongly preferred
Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics for troubleshooting
Familiarity with PLCs and industrial control systems is a plus
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently after training (36 months)
Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
Physical & Work Environment:
Cleanroom environment (full PPE required: suit mask gloves safety glasses)
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
Frequent standing walking driving and technical hands-on work
Exposure to mechanical systems electrical components chemicals lasers and high-vacuum equipment
May require flexible shifts and on-call support
Preferred Skills:
Semiconductor manufacturing equipment experience
PLC and software troubleshooting experience
Robotics and automation system knowledge
Bilingual (English/Japanese) is a plus
