Medical Director Psychiatrist (Outpatient Behavioral Health) Child & Adult Care
Location: Wayne County Michigan (On-site required daily)
Employment Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Hours: 2030 hours/week (based on caseload)
Compensation: $91000 $120000 annually
Job Summary
We are seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to serve as Medical Director for an Outpatient Behavioral Health program in Wayne County MI. This role provides psychiatric leadership clinical oversight and direct patient care across in-person and telehealth settings for children adolescents and adults with a wide range of behavioral health and substance use disorders.
The Medical Director will collaborate with clinical teams and leadership to ensure high-quality compliant and culturally competent psychiatric care for diverse populations served through both public and private insurance programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric evaluations diagnosis and medication management
- Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications; order and review labs
- Offer clinical leadership and consultation to multidisciplinary teams
- Oversee psychiatric services across agency programs and care settings
- Participate in behavior treatment committees and clinical review meetings
- Support development of clinical policies procedures and care standards
- Ensure quality improvement compliance and regulatory adherence
- Provide in-person and telehealth psychiatric services as needed
- Train and mentor clinical staff and participate in staff meetings and evaluations
- Collaborate with leadership on recruitment and supervision of psychiatric staff
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO with active Michigan medical license
- Board Certification in Psychiatry (Child Psychiatry preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience treating both child and adult populations
- Experience with substance use disorders and dual diagnosis patients
- Knowledge of Detroit/Wayne County Community Mental Health system preferred
- Experience with EMR systems and telehealth platforms (Zoom Teams etc.)
- Must carry malpractice insurance
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation

- Strong leadership within complex behavioral health systems
- Ability to manage diverse patient populations (children through adults)
- Ethical professional and collaborative approach to care
- Comfortable working with mild moderate and severe psychiatric cases
