Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will complete complex mechanical electrical and field construction activities in support of large commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for developing M/E estimates coordinating mechanical and electrical scopes during the bid process performing job inspections and managing the commissioning process from preconstruction through closeout.
The first assignment will be on a healthcare project in the Austin area. Candidates should be prepared to work in the DFW area upon completion of the initial project. Occasional travel may be required.
Core Responsibilities
Participate in all aspects of the company safety and quality culture; demonstrate commitment to an injury-free work environment
Develop budgetary M/E estimates based on program and schematic design information
Review mechanical and electrical options complete systems analysis and recommend best system for the project
Coordinate mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process
Assist with bid analysis and provide input during subcontractor selection
Develop sequencing requirements for various systems and provide solutions to meet schedule requirements
Review design documents and identify potential quality problems; assist in developing constructability review reports
Perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met
Manage the shop drawing and submittal process in compliance with contract documents
Develop pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures; verify contractor performance of functional tests
Generate and issue the Commissioning Plan for approval; verify deficiencies are corrected and submit commissioning documentation to owners
Review and approve shop drawings prior to submission to the design team
Provide mentoring and guidance to less experienced team members
Develop M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes
Required Background
Background with a general contractor or mechanical trade partner; owners rep and non-construction backgrounds will not be considered
Experience on large commercial construction projects required
8 years of construction and/or mechanical engineering experience
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Architectural Engineering or a related field; equivalent experience considered
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available
Proficiency in MS Office and ability to read and interpret plans drawings and specifications
Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate across internal teams subcontractors and design partners
Ability to work non-traditional hours and travel occasionally as project demands require
Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred)
