About Cal Poly Pomona

The Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture offers a STEM-focused education centered on agriculture food and fashion. It emphasizes applied learning through access to more than 700 acres of land enabling students to integrate theory with practice while preparing for careers in fashion agribusiness animal science and plant sciences.

About the Department of Apparel Merchandising and Management

The Apparel Merchandising and Management department is a collaborative academic community making it an excellent place to work for faculty committed to innovation student engagement and industry relevance. Faculty actively support student organizations and initiatives that reflect the programs polytechnic hands-on approach while embracing the diverse interests and backgrounds of students. The department offers three areas of specialization Design and Production Fashion Retailing and Textile Technology and Sustainability allowing both faculty and students to engage in focused impactful work across the apparel value chain. Guided by values of inclusivity sustainability experiential learning and professional excellence the department fosters an environment that prepares students for leadership in a global and evolving industry while supporting faculty collaboration and growth.

The Position

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be welcome applications from individuals who are experienced and student-centered to teach in the following subject areas:

  • Fashion and Ethnic Studies
  • Design and Production
  • Fashion Retailing
  • Textile Technology and Sustainability

Responsibilities

Teach assigned division courses in the departments curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. Assignments may include day evening and/or weekend courses.

Required Qualifications

  • A Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Fashion Design Management Technology or a closely related discipline within the field.
  • Relevant industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Fashion Design Management Technology or related discipline.
  • Experience integrating emerging fashion technologies into classroom instruction.
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching.

Salary and Benefit Information

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Initial appointments are for one semester full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range. Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications not to exceed $6221 per month. As of July 2024 the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $5507 - $ 6677
Lecturer B: $6221 - $13224
Lecturer C: $6825 - $14523
Lecturer D: $8593 - $15211
