Whats the role

We are seeking a skilled and student-centered Elementary Special Education Intensive Support Teacher to lead a small structured classroom serving students with moderate disabilities for most of the school day. This role functions closest to a self-contained classroom not a traditional pull-out model and requires strong expertise in small-group instruction individualized learning and classroom structure.

The ideal candidate brings experience in self-contained autism support or life skills settings and is excited to support students in building both academic and functional skills. This teacher also serves as the instructional leader for paraprofessionals ensuring high-quality consistent support for all students.

What youll do

Instruction & Student Support

  • Deliver highly differentiated standards-based instruction in reading writing and mathematics aligned to student IEP goals
  • Provide structured small-group and individualized instruction for students with moderate disabilities including autism and functional skill needs
  • Integrate life skills executive functioning and social-emotional learning into daily instruction
  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies (e.g. explicit instruction visual supports task analysis structured routines)
  • Maintain a structured predictable and supportive classroom environment that maximizes student independence and engagement

IEP Implementation & Progress Monitoring

  • Develop implement and monitor IEP goals ensuring alignment between instruction and student needs
  • Collect and analyze student data daily to adjust instruction and track progress toward goals
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to student performance and compliance
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute meaningfully to goal-setting and progress discussions

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead coach and direct paraprofessionals and 1:1 aides to ensure effective instructional delivery
  • Model instructional strategies and provide ongoing feedback to support staff
  • Coordinate with general education teachers specialists and service providers to ensure aligned support for students
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design integrated and differentiated curriculum

Family Communication & School Community

  • Build strong proactive relationships with families and communicate regularly about student progress
  • Partner with families to support student growth both academically and functionally
  • Contribute to a positive inclusive school culture for students and staff

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong organizational systems and meet all professional deadlines and expectations
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and actively seek feedback to improve practice
  • Demonstrate flexibility problem-solving and a solutions-oriented mindset in a dynamic classroom environment
  • Align your work with school-wide priorities and strategic initiatives

Who you are

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution required (Masters degree preferred)
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification in Special Education (K-8 or K-12) (or actively working toward certification)
  • Experience in self-contained autism support or life skills classrooms strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver small-group highly differentiated instruction
  • Experience supporting students with moderate to significant disabilities including autism
  • Experience leading or directing paraprofessionals or support staff preferred
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to create structured learning environments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in urban public charter or Title I schools is a plus
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
