Job Description

The Chief Medical Officer is a senior leader responsible for providing operational medical leadership across all clinical and research activities. The role ensures the highest standards of patient safety clinical governance and scientific excellence across clinical services and trials.
QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
1. MBChB degree or equivalent
2. Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience in clinical research
3. Registered with HPSCA GCP Certified with valid Malpractice Insurance
4. A masters degree in public health or MSc will be an advantage
5. Proven senior leadership and people management experience
6. High ethical standards and professionalism
7. Ability to lead mentor and influence at senior level
8. Strong organizational and problem
MAIN DUTIES
Provide senior clinical oversight for all participants enrolled in clinical trials and clinical services.
Oversee research staff to ensure:
High-quality clinical care in accordance with approved protocols.
Recognition documentation investigation and management of adverse events.
Protocol adherence and address protocol deviations related to clinical care.
Serve as the senior medical authority on complex clinical decisions affecting patient safety and trial integrity.
Participate in all clinical meetings both internal and external.
Research & Clinical Trials
Provide strategic leadership for clinical research programs and clinical trials.
Oversee the design implementation and execution of clinical research studies.
Source new trials and grant funding for potential new studies.
Support Principal Investigators and research teams in protocol development feasibility assessments and study execution.
Ensure compliance with GCP and ethical standards.
Contribute to ECFs scientific agenda publications and conference participation.
People Management and Leadership
Lead mentor and manage clinic managers study coordinators doctors and clinical staff.
Build and maintain a high-performing multidisciplinary clinical and research team.
Provide clinical supervision performance management and professional development.
Foster a culture of accountability collaboration patient safety and ethical conduct.
Clinical Governance Quality and Compliance
Establish and maintain clinical governance frameworks and standard operating procedures.
Oversee quality assurance and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Participate in audits inspections and regulatory reviews.
Ensure all clinical activities meet regulatory sponsor and institutional requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
Represent the organization at investigator meetings sponsor meetings and protocol training sessions and local stakeholder engagements such as DOH district and municipality departments.
Engage with regulators ethics committees sponsors and collaborative research networks.
Provide strategic medical input to executive leadership.
Governance
Involvement in management structures of ECF.
Coordinate the ongoing performance assessment of clinical staff.
Liaison with Finance for study budgeting and expenditure.
