Contract Duration: 12 months

Max INC Rate: $65.80/

General Description:
The Engineer E3 is a fully qualified and accredited engineering professional responsible for applying theoretical and practical engineering knowledge to support the design planning estimating and quality management of telecommunications infrastructure projects. The role focuses on delivering safe reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions for low to medium complexity projects within BC Hydros telecommunications network. The Engineer works closely with project managers construction teams and senior engineering staff to ensure projects are completed safely with quality within budget and on schedule.
This position plays a key role in supporting the development and maintenance of high-performance communication systems that enable grid operations SCADA systems protection schemes and cybersecurity infrastructure across BC Hydros power system.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop safe and reliable engineering solutions by applying engineering principles to design analyze and resolve technical issues related to telecommunications infrastructure.
Support the design and engineering of telecom networks and circuits that ensure high reliability performance and security for real-time grid operations and utility technologies.
Assist with engineering drawings material ordering and material management for the construction and installation of telecom infrastructure.
Participate in the design and deployment of systems including microwave radio links fiber optic networks WiMAX radio networks satellite communications Power Line Carrier links LTE systems leased facilities IP/MPLS networks digital cross-connect switches SONET multiplexers teleprotection systems mobile radio systems (Tetra/VHF/UHF) and -48 VDC power systems.
Support project and operations management in achieving safety cost quality and schedule objectives by coordinating work activities preparing progress reports and recommending changes to plans or cost estimates.
Provide engineering oversight during installation testing and commissioning activities and support construction teams in resolving field issues.
Conduct periodic on-site inspections and quality control activities to ensure construction and installations comply with design specifications and engineering standards.
Participate in independent technical studies and analysis to support engineering decisions and maintain BC Hydro engineering standards.
Collaborate with senior engineers on complex or unusual engineering challenges to ensure effective risk management and safe system operation.
Ensure compliance with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) requirements BC Hydro engineering standards and industry best practices.
Participate in site visits and multidisciplinary collaboration to confirm design intent support field implementation and assist with maintenance or emergency restoration of critical telecommunications systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum four (4) years of relevant engineering experience or equivalent.
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
Registered Professional Engineer (.) or Professional Geoscientist (.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or registered in another jurisdiction and eligible for EGBC registration.
Prior experience working within power utilities particularly in telecommunications engineering is considered a strong asset.
Experience designing or supporting telecommunications systems such as microwave radio links fiber optic networks (DWDM/OTN) WiMAX radio networks satellite communications Power Line Carrier systems LTE networks digital cross-connect switches SONET multiplexers teleprotection systems mobile radio systems and -48 VDC power systems.
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and large-scale LAN/WAN environments.
Experience with IP/MPLS networking architecture including technologies such as IPv4/IPv6 OSPF IS-IS BGP MPLS/VPN EVPN Segment Routing QoS Traffic Engineering and network security.
Experience configuring or deploying Nokia IP/MPLS or Cisco networking equipment is considered an asset.
Familiarity with CAD systems engineering drawing standards and industry design or analysis software.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint).
Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for a professional engineering environment.
Additional Requirements:
Prior to assignment the candidate must hold a sole practitioner Permit to Practice with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or operate under their firms Permit to Practice.
Engineers engaged under this assignment will operate under BC Hydros Professional Practice Management Plan and Quality Management Pillar.
Engineering documentation produced during the contract will be retained by BC Hydro in accordance with EGBC bylaws.
BC Hydro uses Digital Sign and Seal technology; the successful candidate may be required to subscribe to a digital seal service provided by Notarius.
A valid Class 5 Drivers License in good standing is required for site visits and field support.
