Masters degree in counseling from an approved school counselor preparation program. South Dakota School Counselor Certificate.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

Previous experience in high school.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant hearing hand-eye and mind-eye coordination; frequent repetitive motions with wrists hands and fingers scheduling sitting speaking walking talking and writing are required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships. Strong organizational skills. Ability to plan organize and work collaboratively with other teams.

CERTIFICATION

This position requires a valid South Dakotacertificate.

YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING

South Dakota Codified Lawrequires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years.Compliance is verified through district accreditation will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

1. Provides counseling to individuals and small groups with personal concerns.

2. Consults with teachers staff parents and other significant stakeholders regarding the developmental needs of students.

3. Participates in building problem-solving team meetings and supports a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTMDSS) model for delivering academic and social emotional information.

4. Counsels students through the development of postsecondary and career plans.

5. Monitors and effectively communicates with parents about student progress.

6. Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families.

7. Refers students with significant challenges to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.

8. Coordinates registration.

9. Plans evaluates and revises the building counseling program.

10. Coordinates and conducts activities which contribute to the implementation of the high school counseling plan.

11. Builds interpersonal relationships and establishes positive rapport with students colleagues administrators and parents.

12. Pursues professional growth.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

PAY INFORMATION

Starting at $53877 to $59485 per year based on experience.

HOURS & FTE

Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
