The Opportunity

Northampton is a town with a rich architectural history and a rapidly expanding residential landscape. We are seeking a proactive and highly skilled Site Manager to take full responsibility for the physical environment of a thriving primary this role you will be the custodian of the schools assets ensuring that the buildings and grounds provide a safe inspiring and impeccably maintained space for our youngest learners to flourish.

The Role & Department

• You will lead the premises team working directly with the Headteacher and School Business Manager to oversee the strategic and day-to-day management of the school site.

• Unlike a general caretaking role the Site Manager position involves significant responsibility for health and safety compliance budget monitoring for repairs and long-term premises improvement planning.

• You will operate within a supportive primary setting where the site team is highly valued for their role in creating a positive first impression for families and the local community.

Core Responsibilities

1. Strategic Site Management: Developing and implementing a rigorous planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule to ensure the longevity of the schools infrastructure.

2. Health & Safety Leadership: Serving as the schools Lead for site safety managing risk assessments COSHH registers and ensuring all statutory testing (Fire Legionella Asbestos Electrical) is completed and documented.

3. Contractor Management: Procurement of external services from cleaning and catering to major building works ensuring all contractors are supervised and meet the schools safeguarding standards.

4. Budget & Resource Oversight: Managing the premises budget effectively identifying cost-saving opportunities in utilities and maintenance without compromising on quality or safety.

5. Project Coordination: Overseeing small-to-medium scale renovation projects ensuring work is completed on time within budget and with minimal disruption to the primary school timetable.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a disciplined professional with a can-do attitude and a high level of technical competence. Requirements include:

• Experience: Significant experience in facilities management site supervision or a senior trade role preferably within an educational or public sector setting.

• Technical Knowledge: A comprehensive understanding of building systems (HVAC plumbing electrical) and a current working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (e.g. IOSH or NEBOSH certification is highly desirable).

• Leadership Skills: The ability to manage and motivate a site team as well as the communication skills to report clearly to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Governors.

• Administrative Precision: Proficiency in maintaining digital records and compliance logs with strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities.
