The Department
You will join a collaborative team that prioritizes Communication First pedagogy creating an immersive environment where students feel confident using Spanish as a living language.
The department is equipped with a dedicated digital language suite utilizing interactive platforms like SentenceBuilders and active retrieval tools to accelerate vocabulary acquisition.
We follow a curriculum that celebrates cultural capital integrating Hispanic film contemporary music and authentic literature into the learning journey.
We have established links for international exchange programs and virtual collaboration with partner schools in Spain providing students with a genuine purpose for their linguistic development.
Core Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Teaching Spanish across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (AQA/Edexcel) with the opportunity to lead A-Level modules on Hispanic society political history and artistic culture.
Grammar & Syntax: Helping students master the logic of the Spanish language from basic verb conjugations to the sophisticated use of the subjunctive mood and complex tenses.
Phonics & Oracy: Explicitly teaching Spanish phonics to ensure students develop high levels of pronunciation accuracy and the confidence to engage in spontaneous conversation.
Cultural Integration: Designing lessons that explore the traditions geography and socio-economic contexts of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries.
Differentiated Support: Utilizing scaffolding and high-frequency language modelling to ensure that all learners including those with SEN can experience the quick wins of language mastery.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a linguist who can bring the energy of the Spanish-speaking world to the heart of Norfolk. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Spanish or a related field (Native or near-native fluency is essential).
Pedagogical Flair: The ability to use Extensive Processing Instruction (EPI) or similar methodologies to make language learning accessible and engaging.
Classroom Charisma: A teacher who can create a high-challenge low-threat environment where students are encouraged to take risks and learn from mistakes.
Organization: A commitment to high-quality planning and the ability to track student progress across the four key skills: Listening Speaking Reading and Writing.
