AI ARCHITECT

We are looking for an AI ARCHITECT to explore and lead the integration of artificial intelligence within its design practice. This role focuses on developing and implementing AI systems embedding these technologies directly into the architectural process (from early-stage speculation and conceptual design to technical development and project delivery).

This is an experimental position intended to evolve and we are open to candidates who are still developing their expertise and are interested in growing within this role.

The AI Architect will operate at the intersection of architecture computation and organisational strategy ensuring that artificial intelligence is treated as an active component in the way the office formulates problems produces knowledge and develops design proposals. The role is expected to develop alongside the practice adapting to new tools questions and opportunities as they emerge.

Working closely with project teams the AI Architect will identify opportunities for meaningful AI integration across different project phases develop and test new workflows and support the adoption of tools and systems within the office. This involves translating emerging technologies into actionable design instruments while ensuring that their use remains critically grounded operationally effective and aligned with the broader ambitions of MASSLAB.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contribute to the gradual definition and evolution of AI workflows within the office;
• Define and maintain a strategic roadmap for AI integration within MASSLAB identifying priorities opportunities and limitations;
• Research and evaluate emerging AI tools and technologies assessing their relevance to architectural practice and project development;
• Design and implement AI-driven workflows across different stages of the design process;
• Develop lightweight custom tools (scripts interfaces automation systems) to support design teams;
• Support and advise project teams in the use of AI tools ensuring meaningful integration into ongoing work;
• Structure and manage project data to enable future AI applications including training datasets and internal knowledge systems;
• Establish internal guidelines for the ethical critical and effective use of AI in architecture;
• Lead internal training sessions workshops and knowledge-sharing initiatives;

DESIRED PROFILE

• Masters degree in Architecture;
• Strong understanding of architectural design processes and project workflows;
• Experience or demonstrated interest in AI tools applied to design (image generation LLMs generative systems or similar);
• Critical awareness of the implications of AI in architecture (authorship ethics decision-making etc.);
• Familiarity with computational design tools;
• Ability to translate technical concepts into actionable design strategies;
• Experience working within design teams and collaborative environments;
• A proactive motivated and initiative-driven mindset;
• Fluency in English (spoken and written);
