Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director the Program Manager manages the Research Internship in Science & Engineering (RISE) and Academic Immersion (AIM) pre-college programs offered by Boston University Summer Term which currently enroll over 400 high school students each year. The Program Manager is responsible for overall successful operation of the RISE and AIM programs including admissions program planning communication with students and families and all operational aspects of these programs when in session.

Key Responsibilities:

The Program Manager:

  • Is responsible for the admissions process for the RISE and AIM programs making final admissions decisions maintaining waitlists and determining financial aid awards.
  • With support of seasonal staff ensures that all phone email and in-person inquiries related to AIM and RISE are answered in a timely professional and friendly manner.
  • Recruits RISE faculty mentors in science and engineering departments and places RISE Internship students in appropriate research laboratories by analyzing mentor and mentee research interests and pairing mentors to mentees who share overlapping scientific interests.
  • Is responsible for onboarding mentors in accordance with BU guidelines the Protection of Minors policy and EHS requirements and ensuring payment of stipends.
  • Plans and oversees all RISE and AIM academic events including student orientations the RISE Welcome Luncheon and the RISE poster symposium.
  • Works in collaboration with other members of the pre-college team to interview and select residential staff plan social activities support program check-ins and orientations.
  • With the support of the Assistant Director of Residential Operations helps manage and resolve student disciplinary issues and program policy infractions.
  • Represents the pre-college program portfolio at in-person and virtual information sessions to recruit prospective students.
  • Collects program data analyzes and reports on the performance of RISE and AIM program and contributes to conversations about program enhancements and growth.
  • Actively uses Excel Slate MyBU (BU SIS) and Microsoft suite of programs in daily work; may be required to learn new technology platforms. Some evening and weekend hours.

Required Skills

  • Masters Degree PhD preferred.
  • Three to five years relevant experience.
  • Broad knowledge of scientific research at the University level ability to communicate effectively with both faculty and high school students about scientific research preferred.
  • Experience with high school students preferred.
  • Professionalism strong administrative skills and attention to detail excellent written and oral communication skills enthusiasm for creating educational opportunities for high school students.
  • Some evening and weekend hours (including arrival days) are required during the summer.
