Job Summary

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Cape Henry Collegiates History and Social Science Department invites dynamic forward-thinking educators to apply for a full-time Upper School History and Social Science teaching position beginning in August 2026. We seek a passionate student-centered teacher with a strong background in International Relations U.S. Government and/or Modern World History.

The ideal candidate brings not only deep content knowledge ideally supported by a graduate degree in history international relations or a related field but also the energy creativity and flexibility to bring that content to life in ways that resonate with curious engaged young people. We are looking for an educator who designs learning experiences that are as dynamic as the world our students are preparing to enter.

Our program features a diverse array of course options in World History U.S. History and U.S. Government and other related fields. The ideal candidate will be equally at home in inquiry-driven discussion collaborative projects and innovative approaches that reflect multiple perspectives and experiences. POSITION DUTIES

The Upper School History and Social Sciences Teacher will...

  • Collaborate with colleagues around best practices to maximize student learning.
  • Develop select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons units projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Maintain a safe positive and fair classroom environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with the History and Social Science Department and the Grade Level team to support both curricular goals as well as the social emotional and academic wellbeing of students.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong history and social science proficiency that allows for confident spontaneous interaction and application of knowledge.
  • Ability to plan and implement effective lessons to engage Upper School students and increase their knowledge and ability to forge connections across disciplines and between classroom instruction and current events.
  • Effective use of formative and summative evaluation to meet the needs of each student.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators colleagues students parents and community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree in History or a related field. Candidates with a Masters Degree and/or state teaching license will be given preferential treatment. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted in some areas.
