Summary of Position
The Academy is seeking a full-time highly qualified long term substitute teacher for a first grade classroom from August 2026 through December 2026.
The long term substitute will work as part of a dynamic team that includes close collaboration with other teachers the instructional coach and support staff to deliver strong academic instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan prepare and deliver lessons using the adopted curriculum to facilitate learning.
- Assign and grade student work and maintain accurate records of students progress.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the restorative practices of the school.
- Participate in department/grade-level school and parent meetings.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs including writing report cards and facilitating report card conferences.
- Demonstrate skill in working with students from diverse cultural economic and ability backgrounds including supporting students with Individualized Education Plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Passing score of California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
- Bachelors Degree
- Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance
- California Teaching Credential (preferred)
*Note: If you dont have a teaching credential an emergency permit must be obtained after hired

- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students families and colleagues.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

Time Commitment
- Must report to work on a regular and punctual basis 8am-4pm or 7:30am-3:30pm
- M-F August through December 2026
- 40-hour work week
Work Performed Outside of the Professional Work Day
Required attendance at events outside of the professional workday include:
- Family/Teacher Conferences
Additional Obligations (Teachers receive compensation for participation)
Its critical that students and families be provided with authentic learning experiences and opportunities to connect to each other outside of the regular school day (Such as literacy nights student exhibitions etc.).
We anticipate that teachers will need to attend only 1 or 2 of these types of events throughout the course of the year. On rare occasions a teacher may be asked to attend a third event.
Teachers will be provided the time and resources to effectively prepare for these events during the school day and in most cases will receive compensation (at the evening rate) for addition teachers will be notified long before the event and in many cases will be able to select the event option.
