Engineering Manager Agentic Search Experience

Location: Amsterdam (Hybrid)

Were developing the next generation of smart scalable and progressively autonomous search experiences that assist customers in finding what they want quicker more intuitively and more efficiently.

Were seeking an Engineering Manager to guide a high-performing software engineering team developing backend services and platforms for agentic and search experiences worldwide. This position suits a leader passionate about growing engineers crafting clear technical direction and working in an environment where engineering quality product impact and team culture are valued.

As Engineering Manager you will lead a high-performing team that builds highly available low-latency backend systems and APIs powering large-scale search and agentic experiences at eBay. You will mentor and develop engineers nurture a culture of accountability inclusion technical excellence and operational rigor and make thoughtful hiring and talent growth this role you will direct technical strategy and delivery by guiding the architecture and implementation of scalable distributed systems using Java Kotlin and GraphQL. You will also enhance reliability performance quality and developer efficiency. Additionally you will collaborate closely with Product Applied Science Build and peer Engineering teams to translate business priorities into technical plans and help compose the future of search and discovery.

What were seeking

Required qualifications

  • 4 years of experience leading and managing engineering teams
  • Strong track record of delivering scalable backend systems in production
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems with demanding availability performance and latency requirements
  • Hands-on technical depth in backend engineering ideally with Java and/or Kotlin
  • Experience crafting and delivering APIs and service architectures including GraphQL REST or gRPC
  • Strong understanding of backend systems data flows and platform build
  • Experience with operational excellence practices such as SLOs observability incident management and postmortems
  • Ability to turn ambiguous goals into clear execution plans and strong team outcomes
  • Proven success hiring mentoring and developing engineers
  • Data-driven ownership-oriented approach passionate about business and customer outcomes

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in search relevance discovery recommendations or agentic/product intelligence systems
  • Experience leading teams through platform modernization or periods of rapid growth
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL systems event-driven architectures or streaming technologies such as Kafka
  • Strong quality approach with experience promoting testing code reviews and resilient engineering practices
  • Experience contributing to agile teams dedicated to constant development
