Job Title: Graphic Artist - Printing Publications
Location: U.S. Mills Building 4301 N. 30th Street NE 68111
Reports To: Printing and Publications Administrator
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 month 261 days/Non-Exempt
Salary Schedule: Salary Grade 32W
Position Purpose: The graphic artist creates visual materials to promote the districts brand enhance communication and support educational initiatives. They produce digital and print contentsuch as newsletters brochures and event brandingto engage parents students and the community.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Meets regular and predictable attendance requirements.
- Operates controls adjusts and monitors all job-related equipment.
- Pays close attention to work details.
- Monitors the accuracy quality and aesthetic appeal of work output.
- Meets job specifications and requests with only general supervision.
- Gives and receives job-related information.
- Works cooperatively with other shop employees.
- Ability to read and use information obtained from written sources visual displays and measuring devices.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Knowledge and ability to observe materials in process as a basis for assessing work quality.
- Knowledge and ability to fully operate job-related mechanical technical and manual devices.
- Knowledge and ability to use InDesign Illustrator & PhotoShop
- Knowledge of Fusion Pro/Merged data with print files
- Knowledge and ability to illustrate (draw) using computer tools and traditional methods
- Ability to make careful precise finger movements.
- Ability to be thorough and attentive to details related to the job.
- Cross trained for on copiers and bindery equipment. Workflow knowledge of equipment is imperative.
- Operate wide format printers and finishing equipment such as: Xante -33 Canon Arizona Colorado Colex Laminator and additional Wide-format Equipment
- Produce high-quality signage and display graphics in rigid and flexible substates
- Prepare and package large-format print jobs for delivery or installation
- Maintain accurate job tracking and maintenance on the machine
- Market Direct Store Front and Avanti Slingshot
- Conduct Routine Maintenance and cleaning of print equipment and workspaces
- Monitor Inventory Level and communicate supply needs
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate service calls when necessary
- Ensure all jobs meet quality control standards and are completed on time
- All other duties as assigned
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment:
- This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers and scanners.
Travel: Travel is not required.
Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
- Work in an office environment.
- Ability to lift move and reposition objects and materials - frequently exerting force equal to lifting fifty (50) pounds.
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- A minimum of a High school diploma and/or equivalent. Post high school training/work is preferred.
- One to three years of job-related experience or training.
- Extensive experience with InDesign Illustrator and Photoshop are required.
- Extensive experience preparing artwork for printing and internet web pages.
- Ability to operate wide format equipment copiers bindery and finishing equipment
- Knowledge of substates
- Ability to interpret and carry out written and oral job instructions.
- Ability to recognize and maintain acceptable levels of both quality and production output.
- Ability to withstand and meet demanding production schedules.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Ability to operate equipment while standing for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain records accurately.
- Ability to work as a leader or team member on group projects.
Terms of Employment:
This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
The offer of employment is contingent upon:
- Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses certificates and other requirements for the position (e.g. Paraprofessionals obtaining Highly Qualified status etc.) as identified and maintaining all licenses certificates and requirements for your position throughout employment.
- A background check which demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position.
- Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
