Position Details:
- Position Type:Multiple Positions Available Permanent and Temporary;
- Full-time Part-time and Casual
- Location:Opportunities available at any of the following Care Centres
- Brentwood Chinook Kingsland or Southwood.
- Hours of Work:Shifts include days evenings nights and weekends.
- Union Status:Unionized
Key Responsibilities:
- Meal Preparation & Service:
- Prepare and cook meals and baked items according to standardized recipes menu cycles and dietary requirements
- Ensure meals are presented attractively and served in a courteous timely manner
- Offer appropriate alternate menu choices to meet resident preferences and needs
- Prepare special meals for facility events as required.
Nutrition & Resident Support:
- Follow special diets food textures and fluid consistencies as outlined in resident care plans
- Observe and report changes in resident appetite or food intake to the Food Services Team Leader
- Contribute to resident wellbeing by accommodating cultural and personal food preferences where possible.
Inventory & Food Storage:
- Monitor food and supply inventory levels and inform the Food Services Team Leader of needs
- Receive store and rotate food and supplies using safe food handling and proper storage procedures
- Follow inventory control systems and assume responsibility for food purchases as delegated.
Sanitation & Safety:
- Perform all duties following strict sanitation hygiene and infection control protocols
- Clean work areas equipment and utensils thoroughly and dispose of waste as per procedures
- Use kitchen tools and equipment safely reporting any malfunctions or hazards promptly
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment following WHMIS and fire safety procedures.
Teamwork & Supervision:
- Support and guide Food Service staff in the absence of the Food Services Team Leader
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff as needed
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely meal service
- Promote teamwork by offering suggestions for improvement and supporting change initiatives.
Quality & Continuous Improvement:
- Recommend menu adjustments based on resident preferences and seasonal availability
- Identify problems and participate in implementing effective solutions in the food services department
- Take initiatives to improve meal quality kitchen efficiency and resident satisfaction.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Understand and adhere to all health and safety responsibilities as outlined in the organizations policies
- Report injuries unsafe conditions or incidents immediately and complete necessary documentation
- Remain familiar with emergency procedures and participate in health and safety training as required.
Professional Development & Engagement:
- Take responsibility for personal performance and actively seek learning opportunities
- Attend team meetings read departmental memos and minutes and participate in assigned committees or projects
- Demonstrate respect patience and a positive attitude in all interactions with residents colleagues and guests
- Foster open communication and provide meaningful feedback to support a high-performing team environment.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Journeyman Cook Preferred. Previous experience in institutional cooking preferred.
- Must have Advanced Canadian Food Safety Certification Level 1 and 2
- Ability to read write speak and comprehend the English Language
- Experience with therapeutic diets and food preparation to ensure residents are receiving prescribed meals
- Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined including physical activities such as standing walking bending stretching and lifting heavy objects. Must be free of allergies or related conditions which may be aggravated by work with detergents soaps and chemicals regularly used in the department.
- Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents.
- Demonstrates effective communication problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability to function as an effective team member with other staff residents families and the public.
