Job Description:

This job posting will run concurrently for internal and external applicants. However for the first ten (10) calendar days current employees of York Housing & Support Services that are members of UFCW Local 175 will receive hiring preference.

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the facilitys cleanliness in accordance with relevant standards. The individual is also responsible for making minor repairs and escalating work order proposals to the Operations Manager when necessary.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
Cleaning Responsibilities
Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the facility by cleaning and sanitizing the building in a systematic and thorough manner including but not limited to floors walls windows appliances fixtures washrooms kitchen and dining room lounge and offices.
Manage environmental supplies including but not limited to weekly verification of expiry dates on products restocking inventories of cleanings supplies linens and towels and removal and replacement of worn towels sheets and mattress protectors.
Sanitizing the facility when there are outbreaks by following outbreak policies procedures and public health requirements.
Turn over and prepare rooms for new residents within established timelines and assist with set up and break down of rooms for events and meetings.
Ensure a clean and welcoming environment for staff and clients by following waste removal and recycling procedures for all common areas and client rooms.
Identify and report any repairs or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and policies. Ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are up to date and located in the designated accessible area and that SDSs for all chemicals used in the facility are followed at all times.
Respond promptly and courteously to any inquiries or requests from guests or staff.
Assist in training new housekeeping staff and providing ongoing support and guidance.
Carry out seasonally appropriate responsibilities (i.e. snow shoveling salting or sanding of outdoor areas in winter)
Carry out all responsibilities in a professional manner and be always a positive role model for the residents.

ADMINISTRATION

Update the maintenance Binder reporting any repairs that need to be addressed.
Report any major repairs/ breakdowns to designated supervisor.
Post cleaning checklist through the common areas and file the completed ones in the cleaning binder.
Signoff sheet for turnovers to be updated and completed daily.
Prepare inventory order sheet to be approved by designated supervisor prior to placing the orders.

Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employees Handbook
Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
First Aid/ CRP Certification
Previous Housekeeping experience required
Experience working with and functional knowledge of the barriers and issues experienced by the populations we support the unhoused and those with mental health and addiction disabilities.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism anti- oppression and equity.

Ability to read write English and follow written instructions
Ability to effectively communicate with residents and staff
Good understanding of chemical and equipment use
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Strong customer service skills
Must have good interpersonal/time management skills
Good knowledge of community resources

Vulnerable Sector Check: an original copy of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. The cost of the VSC is borne by the employee.

Compensation: Please note that this job falls under a collective agreement. The hourly rate for the position is set at $18.78 and wage increments are provided based on collective agreement language.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.78 to $18.78 with a maximum of $18.78.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
