Our team in Munich is searching for you:

Thesis: Analyze and assess the criticality of torque merging from multiple EPUs supplying a common propeller shaft.

MTU and eMoSys are developing a new 600 kW Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) with integrated inverter lightweight cooled stator high-pole rotor and geared a design study 23 EPUs combine torque via a gearbox and are powered by independent fuel-cell systems (FCS).

TASKS

Planning & Literature Review:

• Survey existing research on multi-motor torque merging drivetrain dynamics gearbox backlash and control synchronization

Model Adaptation:

• Update/extend existing MTU simulation models for dual-EPU operation including FCS behavior gearbox elasticity and torque-control coordination

Simulation-Based Analysis

• Analyze torque imbalance transient mismatch oscillations backlash effects torsional dynamics and load-sharing
• Documentation & Recommendations
• Summarize critical findings propose mitigation strategies (control or mechanical) and deliver structured documentation

REQUIREMENTS

• Engineering student (Mechanical Electrical Aerospace Mechatronics)
• interest in electric drives controls or drivetrain dynamics
• Simscapce/Simulink beneficial
