ABOUT THE DISTRICT

River Delta is a K-12 district with an enrollment of 1880. The District has 8 small schools: (4) K-6 elementary schools; (2) middle schools; and (2) high schools serving the communities of Clarksburg Hood Courtland Walnut Grove Ryde Locke Isleton Rio Vista Birds Landing and Collinsville.

The River Delta Unified School District sits in three counties Sacramento Solano and Yolo. Although it is a tri-county district it is served by the Sacramento County Office of Education.
River Delta Unified School District is committed to providing a quality education for all students and has high standards and expectations for students success in school. JOB DESCRIPTION

TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

DEFINITION

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services or designee the Technology Technician provides comprehensive technical support for District computer systems mobile devices network infrastructure telecommunications systems instructional technology platforms and related software applications.

This position performs a combination of entry-level and intermediate technical duties including installation configuration troubleshooting system support and coordination of escalated technical issues. While the incumbent may independently manage assigned systems and perform moderately complex technical tasks this classification is not responsible for designing network architecture or performing advanced systems engineering functions. Complex infrastructure cybersecurity and server-level issues are escalated to the Districts contracted technology provider.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Technology Technician classification performs both foundational technical support and intermediate-level system support functions. Incumbents are expected to work independently on routine and moderately complex assignments manage assigned technology systems and serve as a primary on-site technical resource.

The purpose of this position is to ensure the efficient secure and reliable operation of District technology systems by troubleshooting and resolving hardware software network server and data management issues; managing helpdesk operations; maintaining inventory and records; coordinating projects; and providing training and technical support to District personnel.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services or designee. May provide guidance or technical direction to site staff regarding proper technology use but does not supervise other employees.

DUTIES

Essential Functions:

End-User & Technical Support

1. Provide first-line and intermediate technical support to administrators certificated staff classified staff and students.

2. Diagnose and resolve hardware software and system issues with desktops laptops Chromebooks printers and peripherals.

3. Install configure upgrade reimage and maintain devices and operating systems (Windows macOS ChromeOS).

4. Troubleshoot application performance issues and user access problems.

5. Provide remote and on-site technical assistance.

Network & Infrastructure Support

6. Perform intermediate troubleshooting of wired and wireless connectivity issues.

7. Install and replace network equipment such as switches wireless access points and cabling under established configurations.

8. Assist in maintaining network performance and reliability.

9. Implement configuration changes as directed by contracted technology providers.

10. Escalate advanced infrastructure firewall server and cybersecurity issues appropriately.

11. Assist in administering Google Workspace for Education Microsoft 365 and related collaboration platforms.

Systems & Platform Administration

12. Manage user accounts permissions group structures and organizational units.

13. Support integration between instructional platforms and the Student Information System (SIS).

14. Provide technical support for the Districts SIS including account setup and troubleshooting.

15. Assist in maintaining system data integrity and user access controls.

Mobile Device & MDM Management

16. Administer and support the Districts Mobile Device Management (MDM) system.

17. Configure enroll deploy and manage Chromebooks tablets and employee cell phones.

18. Push applications and enforce device policies.

19. Troubleshoot device compliance and connectivity issues.

Telecommunications & VoIP Support

20. Support the Districts VoIP phone systems including extension configuration voicemail setup and routine troubleshooting.

21. Coordinate with service providers for issue resolution when needed.

Helpdesk & Work Order Management

22. Receive prioritize and respond to work orders and service requests.

23. Document troubleshooting steps and maintain accurate service records.

24. Identify trends in recurring issues and recommend practical solutions.

25. Determine when escalation is necessary and coordinate with external technical support vendors.

Website & Digital Communications Support

26. Maintain and update District website content as directed.

27. Assist with maintaining District social media platforms in accordance with District guidelines.

28. Ensure accessibility and compliance with District communication standards.

29. Responsible for the technical setup operation and monitoring of live-streamed District Board meetings including required in-person attendance for the full duration of regularly scheduled monthly meetings to ensure continuous broadcast functionality and technical support.

Inventory & Asset Management

30. Maintain accurate inventory of technology equipment and software licenses.

31. Tag track deploy and dispose of equipment according to District procedures.

32. Assist in planning device refresh cycles and replacement needs.

Training & User Support

33. Provide basic technical training and guidance to staff on classroom technology collaboration tools and device usage.

34. Develop simple reference materials and how-to documentation.

Other Duties

35. Travel between District sites as required.

36. Attend meetings and professional development as assigned.

37. Perform related duties as assigned consistent with the classification.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Computer hardware diagnostics and repair procedures.

Operating systems including Windows macOS and ChromeOS.

Networking fundamentals including TCP/IP wireless networking and device configuration.

Google Workspace for Education Microsoft 365 and collaboration platforms.

Mobile Device Management systems.

Basic cybersecurity principles and data privacy requirements in K12 education.

Helpdesk systems and asset management practices.

Data management systems and database applications.

Helpdesk and work order systems.

Inventory control and record-keeping methods.

Pertinent federal state and local laws and regulations related to technology and data privacy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Three years of progressively responsible technology support experience preferably in a public school setting.

Training:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade required. Associates or Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or related field preferred.

Substitution: Additional directly related technical experience or completion of a recognized technical training program may substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basis.

Industry certifications (e.g. CompTIA A Network Google Microsoft Apple) are desirable but not required.

Valid California Class C drivers license.

May be required to obtain job-related certifications after appointment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environmental Conditions:

Office classrooms technology closets and various District sites. May involve exposure to dust electrical components confined spaces and moderate noise. Driving to all sites within the district will occur.

Physical Conditions:

Sit stand and walk for extended periods.

Bend stoop kneel crouch crawl and reach to install and repair equipment.

Lift carry push and pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (frequent lifting up to 25 pounds).

Dexterity to operate tools and technical equipment.

Visual acuity to read screens and technical documentation.

Hearing and speech sufficient to exchange information in person and by telephone.

Special Qualifications:

Required attendance for monthly Board Meetings.

Annual Contract: 12 months
