The Department
You will join a collaborative team that emphasizes Mastery Mathematics ensuring students have a deep conceptual understanding before moving on to complex procedures.
The department is well-resourced with interactive whiteboards high-spec graphing software (such as Desmos and GeoGebra) and a wide array of physical manipulatives for Key Stage 3.
We follow a Problem-Solving First curriculum where students are challenged to apply algebraic and geometric principles to real-world scenarios including engineering and financial modelling.
We take pride in our Maths Excellence pathway which supports high-attaining students through the UKMT Junior and Intermediate Maths Challenges.
Core Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) with the potential to teach Core Maths or A-Level Mathematics (including Mechanics or Statistics modules) for the right candidate.
Algebraic Fluency: Guiding students through the transition from basic arithmetic to abstract algebra ensuring they can manipulate equations and understand functions with confidence.
Geometric Visualization: Helping students master 2D and 3D geometry including trigonometry and circle theorems using both traditional construction methods and digital modelling.
Data & Probability: Teaching students how to analyse and interpret data sets understand risk and represent information through sophisticated statistical diagrams.
Intervention & Support: Identifying gaps in mathematical knowledge early and delivering targeted small-group sessions to ensure no student is left behind.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a mathematician who can make complex theorems accessible and exciting. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics Engineering Physics or a related quantitative field.
Pedagogical Range: The ability to simplify abstract concepts for struggling learners while simultaneously stretching high-ability students with low threshold high ceiling tasks.
Mathematical Authority: A deep love for the subject that inspires students to see the beauty in numbers and the logic in proofs.
Resilience: A patient and encouraging approach to teaching recognizing that for many students Mathematics is a subject that requires a high degree of confidence-building.
