The Opportunity

We are seeking a creative and intellectually curious English Teacher to join a high-performing this role you will be responsible for helping students find their own voices while navigating the greats of the English canondeveloping the critical reading analytical writing and oratory skills that are vital for success in the modern world.
The Department
You will join a collaborative team that believes English is the heartbeat of the curriculum fostering a culture of Reading for Pleasure alongside academic rigor.
The department is exceptionally well-resourced featuring a dedicated Literacy Suite a diverse stock of contemporary and classic texts and integrated digital tools for collaborative essay drafting.
We utilize a Thematic Curriculum linking texts across eras to explore universal ideas like power identity and social justicemoving seamlessly from Shakespearean tragedy to modern dystopian fiction.
We have strong links with local cultural institutions including Seven Stories and the Literary and Philosophical Society offering students unique opportunities for workshops and author visits.
Core Responsibilities
Dynamic Text Delivery: Teaching English Language and Literature across Key Stage 3 and GCSE with the opportunity to specialize in A-Level modules such as Gothic Literature or Post-Colonial Poetry.
Analytical Writing: Training students to move beyond PEE paragraphs toward sophisticated conceptualized responses that evaluate the writers craft and socio-historical context.
Oracy & Debate: Leading classroom discussions that challenge students to articulate complex viewpoints preparing them for the spoken language endorsement and future professional life.
Creative Writing: Designing masterclasses that help students experiment with narrative voice structural shifts and linguistic devices in their own original fiction and non-fiction.
Literacy Intervention: Implementing strategies to close the attainment gap ensuring that every student in Newcastle has the vocabulary and comprehension skills to access the wider curriculum.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a bibliophile who can make a 400-year-old play feel as urgent as todays headlines. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English Literature Language or a closely related Humanities field.
Subject Passion: An extensive knowledge of both the classical canon and contemporary diverse literature.
Classroom Charisma: The ability to lead a room with energy fostering a safe space for students to share their interpretations of sensitive or complex themes.
Detail-Oriented Feedback: A commitment to providing high-quality formative feedback that helps students refine their writing style and technical accuracy.
