The Department

• You will join a Research-Informed faculty where teaching methods are grounded in cognitive scienceprioritizing retrieval practice and the Big Ideas of Science.

• The department features university-standard laboratories and a dedicated STEM garden for ecological studies and sustainability projects.

• We utilize a highly practical curriculum ensuring that Key Stage 3 and 4 students spend a significant portion of their time doing science rather than just reading about it.

• We have strong partnerships with the University of Sussex and local environmental agencies providing students with unique opportunities for Citizen Science projects and advanced lab workshops.

Core Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Delivery: Teaching General Science at Key Stage 3 and specializing in Biology Chemistry or Physics at GCSE (AQA/Edexcel) with the potential for A-Level classes in a Sixth Form setting.

2. Environmental Literacy: Integrating local ecological contexts into the curriculum such as the chemistry of ocean acidification or the physics of renewable energy sources along the South Coast.

3. The Scientific Process: Guiding students through the full investigative cycle from initial observation to the analysis of complex data sets.

1. Required Practicals: Ensuring all students develop the technical dexterity and safety-consciousness required for the GCSE and A-Level practical endorsements.

2. STEM Enrichment: Leading the schools Green Tech club or coordinating the annual Science Fair to showcase student-led research and innovation.

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a Subject Champion who can turn a lab into a hub of curiosity. Requirements include:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a core Science subject (Biology Chemistry or Physics).

• Adaptability: The ability to teach across the three sciences at KS3 while maintaining high-level expertise in your own specialism at KS4/5.

• Inspirational Pedagogy: A teacher who can use modelling dual-coding and live demonstrations to make invisible forces and microscopic processes visible.

• Safety & Standards: Total commitment to maintaining a safe organized and high-functioning laboratory environment in line with CLEAPSS guidelines.
