A welcoming and well-regarded secondary school in Swindon is seeking a proactive and dependable School Caretaker to join its site team immediately. This is a vital role for an individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe clean and functional environment for students and staff.

As a Caretaker you will be the eyes and ears of the school estate ensuring that the physical environment remains conducive to learning and that all health and safety protocols are strictly followed.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Security: Responsible for the opening and closing of the school site ensuring all buildings are secure and the alarm systems are functional.

• Maintenance & Repair: Carrying out general DIY tasks such as minor plumbing carpentry painting and furniture repairs across the campus.

• Health & Safety Compliance: Conducting regular checks on fire alarms emergency lighting and water temperatures (legionella monitoring) keeping accurate logs for audit purposes.

• Cleanliness & Grounds: Overseeing the external grounds including litter picking leaf clearance and ensuring pathways are safe during winter months (gritting).

• Porterage & Setup: Moving furniture and equipment to support school assemblies examinations and community evening lettings.

• Contractor Liaison: Assisting the Site Manager by escorting external contractors (gas engineers electricians) to various parts of the building.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous experience in caretaking site maintenance or a trade-based role (e.g. plumbing or joinery).

• A strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations and the ability to perform physical tasks.

• A proactive can-do attitude and the ability to work independently without constant supervision.

• Excellent reliability and a commitment to the safeguarding of children within a school setting.
