Job Title: Sr. Scientist
Location: St. Paul MN 55117
Duration: 6 Months
Schedule: Fully onsite; 8am to 5pm
Summary
Responsible for performing materials assessments to support device production research and development and regulatory submissions. A successful candidate will have experience partnering with clients/co-workers defining study plans and leading problem-solving initiatives. Additionally the candidate will have experience in a dynamic team environment and have strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of medical devices is preferred but not required. The candidate will have excellent organizational skills and be results-oriented. The candidate will also have experience with documenting experiments in a highly regulated environment and knowledge of technical concepts and principles underlying Materials Science and supporting analytical techniques.
Essential Functions:
- Perform material characterization and assessment using a variety of techniques including Metallography Optical microscopy SEM/EDS Microhardness Laser Raman Spectroscopy and/or FTIR to support medical device project teams with various Materials Science needs.
- Partner with other scientists and project teams to define test plans.
- Work in a dynamic team environment and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Conduct hands-on laboratory analysis and testing.
- Document experiments in a highly regulated environment in an electronic notebook system.
- Knowledge of technical concepts and principles underlying Materials Science techniques.
- Analyze test results and draft technical reports.
Accountability/Supervision:
- Possess ability to apply chemistry/materials education and experience in fast-moving laboratory.
- Willingness to be hands on in a science laboratory.
- Will receive work direction and prioritization from supervisor and/or other S&T scientists.
- Possess strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical writing skills
Working Conditions:
- Working in lab environment with proper safety equipment.
- Working with common laboratory chemicals and biological tissue.
- Working while sitting and /or standing.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work in fast-moving environment where priorities frequently change.
- Experience with common materials characterization techniques.
- Ability to perform multiple assignments concurrently and meet required deadlines.
- Bachelors degree in materials science chemistry/chemical engineering or closely related field with 1-3 years demonstrated experience.
- Ability to operate analytical instrumentation through relevant industry experience.
- Experience documenting laboratory work in electronic/paper notebook system according to GMP guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in biomaterials (such as nitinol stainless steel titanium carbon polyurethanes and others) and their interactions with biological systems.
