Job Summary

Areas of Responsibility: The Lead Timer is responsible for overseeing all timing operations during a track and field meet. This includes managing the timing system supervising timers and finish line judges coordinating race starts with the Starter and ensuring accurate race results. The Lead Timer plays a critical role in ensuring races are timed correctly and efficiently from start to finish.

General Duties

  • Oversee all timers and timing system operations

  • Ensure the timing system is properly set up and ready for each race

  • Coordinate race starts in collaboration with the Starter

  • Instruct and supervise timers and finish line judges (when applicable)

  • Record times for non-lane races (e.g. 800m 1600m distance events and longer relays)

  • Assist with tracking and placing runners in multi-lap races

  • For relay events:

    • Check status of exchange zone flags

    • Control the main flag for the Starter

  • Provide the race results tape to the recorder immediately after each race

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple systems simultaneously
  • Basic troubleshooting skills (technology and communication equipment)
  • Leadership and ability to train and supervise others
  • Effective communication and coordination skills

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience with track and field timing systems preferred
  • Basic computer and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to learn timing software and equipment systems
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead train and supervise staff or volunteers
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Meeting OSAA standards
  • Background check will be done
