BASIC FUNCTION: Perform skilled journey-level rough and finish carpentry work in the alteration renovation repair and construction of District facilities.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties knowledge or abilities associated with this classification but is intended to reflect the principal job elements accurately.)

E Essential Functions

Maintain and repair all woodwork of buildings; fit doors window sashes and screens; install partitions and ceiling tiles. E

Repair all floors and roofs. E

Perform all necessary milling work. E

Set forms mix and finish concrete. E

Design and construct walls shelves and fixture work in District facilities. E

Construct and repair all types of equipment and wooden fixtures. E

Anchor and secure computers monitors copiers microwave ovens refrigerators other equipment and machinery as required. E

Repair cafeteria tables benches service carts and other related equipment. E

Operate all woodwork equipment powered and non-powered. E

Maintain equipment tools and work area in a safe clean and orderly manner. E

Maintain routine records as assigned. E

Work with all District employees architecture and engineering employees and outside contractors. E

Collaborate with other Districts to exchange information on best practices of the profession. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

TRAINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education training and/or experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of journey-level carpentry experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion

(Eight years of fieldwork experience may be substituted for the California Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion at the discretion of the Director)

Valid California Drivers License

Employment eligibility will include fingerprints tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance

May be required to work overtime

Complete work independently with minimal supervision

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Observe all legal and District defensive driving practices

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor outdoor and shop environment; driving a District vehicle to conduct work; noise from equipment operation; exposure to adverse weather conditions; working on ladders or scaffolding at heights; working in a cramped or restrictive work chamber; working around and with machinery having moving parts; exposure to flying debris

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Consistent mental alertness and dexterity of fingers and both arms and hands to ensure safety and successful completion of essential functions; standing walking or sitting for extended periods of time; lifting and carrying light to moderately-heavy objects occasionally more than 50 pounds; pushing and pulling exerting force to approximately 50 pounds occasionally 50 pounds; handling small to large-sized materials equipment or items; climbing up and down ladders and on and off raised surfaces; bending and twisting at waist and neck; crouching and crawling; kneeling and bending at the waist; reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally; using hand and power tools; repetitive use of upper extremities; seeing to read write and to complete repairs and construction projects; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
