Director of Transfusion Services

The Department of Pathology University of Maryland School of Medicine invites applicants for a full-time Clinical Pathology faculty position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Director of Transfusion Services. The successful applicant will have leadership experience outstanding organizational and management skills and an expansive view of the role of clinical pathology in patient care and hospital stewardship. Evidence of success in the academic setting including teaching and publications is required; external grant-funded research is desirable. Since the service is central to the coordination of patient care with several other departments strong interpersonal communication skills are required. Subspecialty certification in Transfusion Medicine is required. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with academic rank and experience. The salary range is 260K - 360K.

The UMMC transfusion service offers medical consultation on transfusion-related issues across a diverse patient population. The service oversees approximately 40000 transfusions per year supporting:

The R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma hospital which is both the highest volume trauma center and the only fully integrated shock trauma hospital in the United States. UMMC is an international leader in trauma research patient care and education.
The NCI-designated Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.
A high-volume organ transplant service.
Complex care for alloimmunized sickle cell patients.
Numerous multidisciplinary clinical trials and innovation projects

The referenced salary range reflects base pay which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the Departmental faculty compensation program or pay from participation in Departmental variable compensation programs. The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on the University of Maryland School of Medicines good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors which may include the successful candidates geographic location skills work experience internal equity market conditions education/training and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.
