The Opportunity
Lipscomb Academy is seeking a compassionate knowledgeable Upper School Academic Counselor who is passionate about supporting adolescents in their academic personal and spiritual journeys. You will empower students to set and achieve academic goals navigate course selection and prepare for postsecondary success while also providing emotional support and guidance through the challenges of high school lifeall within a Christian worldview.
What You Will Do
- Provide individualized academic counseling to students in grades 912 including course selection graduation planning and academic goal setting.
- Offer emotional support counseling helping students navigate stress anxiety peer relationships and personal challenges with empathy and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with faculty to identify and support students academic social and emotional needs.
- Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as high school course choices and college planning.
- Maintain accurate student records and monitor academic progress intervening proactively when concerns arise.
- Serve as a liaison between students families teachers and administration to ensure holistic support.
- Facilitate testing such as ACT PSAT and AP testing.
- Integrate Biblical principles and Christ-like character into counseling practices and school life.
- Contribute to school culture through advisory clubs events and service-learning opportunities.
- Stay current on best practices in academic emotional and college counseling as well as adolescent development.
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all counseling interactions.
What You Bring
- As a Christian independent school affiliated with the Churches of Christ Lipscomb Academy seeks counselors who can support and model the schools mission and values. Candidates should be willing to participate in spiritual life activities and mentor students in faith and character.
- Bachelors degree in School Counseling Education Psychology or related field (Masters preferred).
- Valid Tennessee school counseling license (or eligibility within a defined timeline).
- Demonstrated experience in academic emotional support and college counseling at the secondary level.
- Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with students families and colleagues.
- Proficiency with student information systems (SIS) college/career planning platforms and Google Workspace.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and collaboration.
