Job Summary
We are seeking one sessional instructor to teach EDHM 3100 - Introduction to Humanities Pedagogy from July 16 - 24 2026. Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 1:20 pm.
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION
Teacher Candidates will learn approaches for supporting middle school and junior level secondary students engagement and learning in English and Social Studies are introduced. They will develop pedagogical approaches and strategies consistent with constructivist philosophy and the nature of the humanities. Teacher candidates design lesson and unit plans that build literacy and inquiry skills; promote critical historical and creative thinking; connect with authentic texts social issues and historical contexts; and align with the British Columbia Ministry of Education curriculum. This course prepares teacher candidates for their first practicum.
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Education is required
- A Master of Education is required
- Recent successful experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years successful full time classroom experience is required
- Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
- Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
- Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
- Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills is required
- Proven skills in building intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect are required
- Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
- Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
- Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA10) is required
