Project Officer RESILIENCE

Role Purpose:

Cargill and Save the Children (SC) share a vision to enhance the lives of palm oil farmers and their communities particularly youth in West Kalimantan Indonesia. Since 2021 we have collaborated to equip youth with employability and entrepreneurship skills improve access to finance for women and youth and enhance water sanitation and hygiene practices in the Ketapang District.

As we conclude Phase 1 we are excited to launch the next phase of our partnershipa three-year program designed to reach more palm oil farming households. This new phase will focus on fostering sustainable economic growth and improving community well-being while empowering vulnerable youth and promoting the adoption of clean and healthy behaviors.

Building on the foundation we established in Phase 1 which reached over 8113 individuals across 13 villages in the Ketapang District we are strengthening our program with a clear focus and new Phase 1 we improved financial literacy formed Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and provided training for alternative livelihoods through Income Generating Activities (IGAs).

We also offered soft and hard skills training for vocational students and out-of-school youth connected schools with local factories through job fairs and internships and implemented Community-Led Total Sanitation by engaging various stakeholders including village communities and schools.

Implementation of phase 2 project will implement to achieve three goals as follows:

  • Increasing household incomes and viable business options within palm oil supply chain and income generating alternative.
  • Improving employment opportunities for vulnerable youth including local ethnic and out-of school youth through apprenticeships formal employment and support for business startups.
  • Improving access to and utilization of suitable WASH services infrastructure and practices for children adolescents youth farming families and the broader community.

This role responsible for ensuring the project implementation to achieve all the desired goals from the planning to monitoring and evaluation process. S/He will collaborate with Agriculture Impact Specialist Ecosystem Convener Specialist and other project team at national level to ensure the high quality of program delivery. S/He will also contribute to ensure that implementation is in line with donor requirements.

What you will do:

  • Participate in the development of annual and monthly work plan for the Resilience program.
  • Be responsible to support community mobilisers in conducting appropriate coaching and mentoring of communities.
  • With input from Program Manager Technical Specialists and REALM develop monitoring and coaching plan for target communities and ensure that the team will have appropriate access to monitoring tools monitoring and coaching plan and other related information.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly meeting with team of community mobilisers for regular updates reflections of field activities implemented to identify challengess and propose solutions to overcome situation.
  • Ensure Resilience program activities in Air Upas - Ketapang are implemented according to the detailed implementation plan and in line with strategy design.
  • With input from Specialist ensure that the team is aware for high quality technical implementation of all project interventions according to lessons learned from Save the Children programming in Indonesia and globally.
  • Involve in ensuring close collaboration of STC with local stakeholders include establishing and developing strong and effective relationships with children communities schools and key village/district government officials and non-governmental stakeholders.
  • Contribute to systematically build local government capacity and co-implementation of the Resilience program including coordination on target school/community focus and priorities community mobilization mentoring monitoring and project events.
  • Participate in program studies and evaluations.
  • Support the development and implementation of an effective monitoring and evaluation system for Resilience program.
  • Close coordination with REALM to conduct monitoring and provide monitoring report as planned.
  • Together with team and Program Manager ensure timely procurement of goods and services for project delivery.
  • Provide effective technical support to team of community mobilisers in coordination with technical specialist and Program Manager.
  • Ensure that there is close coordination with any other Save the Children project in site.
  • Together with team member and Program Manager undertake advocacy activities at the policy and community mobilization levels to ensure the sustainability of the project.
  • Provide timely reports on implemented activities.

What we need from you :

  • Bachelors University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years work experience with non-government organizations in Eastern Indonesia.
  • Knowledge about local context in West Kalimantan local government system and ways of work in West Kalimantana.
  • At least 3 years experience in NGOs preferably international NGOs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferable English language proficiency.
  • Willingness to work in Ketapang district and its rural context.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to ride motorcycle and has appropriate license.

Experience And Skills

  • Knowledge and skills in Community Mobilisation methods
  • has minimum of basic understanding on agriculture youth empowerment and WASH.
  • Proven skills to develop an implementation plan and then efficiently implement activities
  • Demonstrated ability to write high quality reports in Indonesian- English language writing skills also preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage financial resources according to donor and organization regulations
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural team
