Job Summary

Bus Monitor

2. JOB GOAL

To assist the Self Contained Special Education Teacher with the implementation of the Individual Education Plan for students with various types of disabilities in a self- contained classroom setting. To assist in providing a well-organized smooth functioning class/computer lab environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program.

  • QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Must obtain and maintain an AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required).
  2. High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  3. Experience working with school- aged children.
  4. Experience working with children with various learning and physical disabilities preferred.
  5. Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  6. Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  7. Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  8. Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.

  • PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Participates in planning and modifying activities/work assignments for individual students.
  2. Assist the teacher in implementing the activities /work assignments for individual students (small groups and individuals).
  3. Follow a lesson plan chart or guide evolved by teacher.
  4. Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs suggestions questions problems and progress of the student.
  5. Assists the teacher in progress monitoring of students.
  6. Assists teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and control.
  7. Maintains adequate and legible records concerning his/her students work with teacher direction.
  8. Assists the teacher with preparation of instructional materials.
  9. Attends district in-service workshops for instructional aides when release time or pay is given.
  10. Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  11. Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program which includes maintaining monthly logs on eligible students; attending scheduled training.
  12. Assists with personal care activities for special education self- contained students including feeding toileting and medical protocol.
  13. Establish and maintain good rapport with students employees community members and vendors.
  14. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  15. Other job related duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds such as boxes supplies etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.

Non-Exempt 10 month position 186 days

Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)

6 hours/day
