The Technology Architect will act as a subject matter expert in Mainframe Performance and Capacity Management supporting both operational stability (KTLO) and project initiatives including post-migration activities and disaster recovery implementations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Performance & Capacity Management
Provide operational support for day-to-day mainframe performance and capacity activities.
Analyze resource utilization and capacity data across mainframe systems (IMS/DB2). Develop and maintain capacity plans including forecasting and optimization.
Conduct workload analysis and provide recommendations for infrastructure efficiency.
Support vendor billing reconciliation and respond to application team inquiries.
Perform impact analysis for project-related workload changes.
2. Incident & Problem Management
Analyze incidents identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
Use IBM and ISV tools for incident tracking and resolution.
Maintain system health and proactively prevent issues.
Ensure timely ticket resolution and stakeholder communication.
Participate in on-call/standby support as required.
Adhere to SLA requirements and operational procedures (MOPs).
3. Disaster Recovery & Infrastructure
Support installation of mainframe DR hardware at co-location sites.
Participate in disaster recovery exercises and ensure system readiness.
Monitor systems to maintain high availability and resilience.
4. Hardware & Platform Management
Plan configure and support installation of new mainframe hardware.
Contribute to mainframe refresh and upgrade initiatives.
5. Migration & Decommissioning
Support migration of mainframe software and networking components.
Assist with decommissioning of legacy systems and applications.
6. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with IT Operations Infrastructure Application Development and Production Support teams.
Engage with hardware/software vendors to design and implement solutions.
Communicate effectively through documentation presentations and stakeholder updates.
Mandatory Skills & Experience
Minimum 7 years of experience in Mainframe Performance & Capacity Management.
Strong experience with:
Capacity management tools (MICS RMF and other ISV tools)
SMF data analysis
CPU capacity planning upgrades and what-if modeling
Mainframe billing reconciliation (ISV workloads)
Workload estimation using MIPS/MSUs in multi-partition environments
zIIP utilization
SAS programming
Deep understanding of:
IBM Mainframe CPU concepts (CBUs CoD)
Performance monitoring and reporting tools
Proven ability to identify CPU cost optimization opportunities.
