Engagement: PIlot for 4 weeks and extendable to 6 months
Start Date: May 1st
Location & Travel:
Mining site located in Washington State
Approximately 45 minutes from Spokane International Airport
Onsite Requirement: 2 weeks at project start
Remote Work: Cisco ISE support following onsite phase
Travel: Fully covered
Preferred Location: Spokane area or Pacific Northwest (WA OR ID)
Travel Consideration: Strong preference for candidates based in the Pacific Northwest for ease of travel and potential follow-on support
Role Overview
The Client is seeking a senior-level Cisco Wireless Architect / SME to support a large-scale mining environment in stabilizing and optimizing wireless network infrastructure.
This engagement begins with a hands-on onsite wireless assessment and remediation effort followed by remote support focused on Cisco ISE and ongoing improvements. The role supports both IT and OT (Operational Technology) environments that enable critical operations automation and safety systems.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in wireless architecture RF design and industrial environments along with the ability to quickly assess issues implement solutions and operate independently in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
Wireless Assessment Design & Deployment
Lead onsite wireless assessment cleanup and stabilization across the site
Design implement and optimize wireless networks supporting large-scale industrial environments
Conduct active passive and predictive RF site surveys using Ekahau or similar tools
Identify and resolve coverage gaps interference issues and performance bottlenecks
Deploy and support Wi-Fi (802.11) point-to-point / point-to-multipoint and industrial wireless solutions Systems Integration (IT & OT)
Integrate wireless infrastructure with IT and OT systems including SCADA automation platforms sensors and telemetry networks
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless interoperability Operational Support & Troubleshooting
Troubleshoot complex wireless issues including RF authentication routing and connectivity challenges
Resolve issues across Cisco platforms including WLCs DNAC and ISE prior to vendor escalation
Support authentication model cleanup including 802.1X and guest access
Provide Tier 3 support during and after remediation efforts Configuration & Optimization
Review and remediate configurations across WLCs and access points aligning with global standards
Improve performance reliability and scalability of existing wireless infrastructure Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
Document findings configurations and recommendations for post-engagement sustainability
Provide guidance and best practices to internal teams Technology Leadership
Act as the wireless SME onsite and remotely
Contribute to standards design improvements and long-term architecture discussions Qualifications
Proven experience in mining or heavy industrial environments
Strong hands-on expertise with Cisco wireless technologies including:
Catalyst 9800 WLCs
AireOS
Cisco DNAC
Cisco ISE
Experience with large-scale wireless deployments migrations and remediation efforts
Strong RF design and troubleshooting experience in outdoor/industrial environments
Ability to work independently onsite and deliver results within a compressed timeframe Nice to Have
Experience with private cellular networks (4G/5G) in industrial environments
Experience supporting large global or enterprise industrial environments
