Job Summary

The Safety Officer is a legal appointment in terms of regulation 2.17.1 of the Minerals Act.

Focus areas for this role include:

  • Collect and analyze safety data
  • Short range Operational Unit planning
  • Stop work if unsafe and facilitate accident investigations
  • Set safety targets
  • Determine the need for safety policies procedures and standards
  • Select preventative actions for incidents where appropriate
  • Carry out statutory inspections (30 25 90 days)
  • Compile safety reports and verify compliance to safety systems
  • Select appropriate training needs
  • Determine appropriate investigations
  • Discipline employees to agreed parameters and procedure

This role is in the SHE department at a D1 level reporting to the Chief Safety Officer.


Qualifications :

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Trade Test
  • SAMTRAC
  • Safety Related Diploma (advantageous)

Experience

  • 5 years experience as an artisan
  • 3 years relevant experience as a Safety Officer and /or acting as a Safety Officer within Engineering environment

Knowledge and Skills

  • Computer literate (MS Office and Projects)
  • Courses in ISO 14001 and 45001 Safety Management Systems
  • SHEP Safety training completion would be advantageous
  • & OSHAS 18 001
  • ITIS/Train the Trainer
  • Auditors courses for Safety and Risk Control management
  • Accident investigation (ICAM/RCAT/SCAT)
  • Fire (Intermediate fire FPA)
  • First Aid
  • Auditors courses for Safety and Risk Control management
  • Risk Assessment Techniques: (SWIFT HAZOP and FMECA
