Job Summary

Main Responsibilities

Energy Analysis and Drafting

  • Contribute to regional electricity outlook using the Global Energy and Climate Model.
  • Contribute to hourly electricity supply modelling in collaboration with the Demand Sector Unit.
  • Contribute to analysis of power system flexibility needs and supply along with cutting edge analysis on the competitiveness of power technologies including renewables paired with energy storage technologies.
  • Work closely with senior power sector modellers and analysts on power sector analysis and modelling ensuring proper teamwork and cooperation.
  • Help the team lead qualitative and quantitative analysis of topical issues confronting the power sector for inclusion in IEA key publications.
  • Coordinate the preparation of and draft individual chapters and reports.
  • Stay abreast of relevant energy technology and policy developments in member and non-member countries and with related academic work.
  • Contribute to drafting reports working papers prepare presentations and briefing notes for senior management.

Liaison and Outreach

  • Collaborate with other Directorates in the Agency the OECD and other national and international organisations the energy industry and research bodies in the analysis of the role of technologies and energy sectors to clean energy transitions in Member and non-Member countries.
  • Participate in preparations for meetings of IEA standing committees working parties and other groups as required; participate in relevant meetings of other international organisations; provide support for the development of reports analyses and information items for these meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with other IEA divisions ensuring cross-Agency research and analytical projects that require professional input.
  • Maintain contacts with relevant members of national delegations other international organisations representatives of industry and other institutions involved in energy market assessments.
  • Promote the work of the IEA externally to a wide range of audiences through organising and participating in workshops making presentations and holding bi-lateral meetings.

Qualifications :

Idea Candidates profile

Academic Background

  • An advanced university degree(s) in relevant disciplines such as economics engineering or mathematics.

Professional Background

  • At least three years experience in applied economic and policy analysis preferably within an energy context. 
  • Good understanding of energy sector dynamics.
  • Experience working with hourly electricity supply models.
  • Good quantitative background and experience in the construction and use of large-scale energy models and datasets.
  • Proven analytical abilities and excellent writing skills as demonstrated in past work products (analytical reports quantitative analysis operative models and/or published papers).

Tools

  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office suite especially Excel Access and Power Query.
  • Basic proficiency in Python for data analysis
  • Recommended experience with version control (Git) and powersystem modelling tools (e.g. PyPSA OMeSys) ideally including contributions to model development rather than use only
  • Knowledge of Vensim is an asset.

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other with a commitment to reach a good working level.

Salary Information  

  • Salary and conditions will depend on her/his status (temporary staff or official).
