Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate
  2. Extensive knowledge of IDEA state regulations and best practices in special educations
  3. Experience developing and writing IEPs
  4. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of professionals and families
  6. Proficient in using educational software and tools for data management and IEP writing

About the Role:

Why the role exists:

The IEP Writer is responsible for developing writing and revising the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students with disabilities. This role involves collaborating with teachers parents administrators and other educational professionals to ensure that each IEP meets state and federal regulations as well as the unique needs of each student.



Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development
    • Create detailed and individualized IEPs based on assessments teacher reports parent input and student performance data
    • Disseminates and collects classroom teacher information/forms needed for Individualized Education Program (IEP)
    • Ensure that IEPs include measurable goals appropriate accommodations modifications and services
    • Update and revise Annual IEPs to reflect student progress
    • Provides teachers and parents with draft of Individualized Education Program (IEP) based on the District Individualized Education Program (IEP) compliance checklist
  • Collaboration
    • Communicates with team members to schedule Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and conferences
    • Elicits parent input for Individualized Education Program (IEP)
    • Work closely with special education teachers general education teachers school psychologist speech therapists and other related service providers
    • Conduct and facilitate IEP meetings with parents/guardians and education staff to discuss and finalize IEPs
  • Compliance
    • Ensure all IEPs comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and state specific regulations
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all IEP related documentation
    • Monitor timelines to ensure that IEP meetings and updates are conducted within required timeframes
    • Complete Prior Written Notices after the meeting
  • Training and Support
    • Participates in all compliance and computerized IEP training as required by the District
    • Provide support to teachers and staff on implementation of IEP and understanding of special education laws and best practices
    • Assist in the development of school policies and procedures related to special education
  • Assessment and Evaluation
    • Review and interpret educational evaluations and assessments to inform IEP development
    • Collaborate with assessment team to ensure appropriate testing and identification of student needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
