Position Description
AMS Head Boys Basketball Coach (non-certified) High school (26-27 School Year)
Goal: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship while providing an educational environment which enhances the development of the whole student-athlete.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated
- Must meet all TSSAA guidelines/preparation for coaches
- Previous Coaching experience
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position
- Any other/additional qualifications that the Superintendent finds appropriate and acceptable
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uses sound and acceptable coaching techniques in all phases of the program
- Organizes safe and effective practice sessions
- Develops and delegates specific job tasks for assistant(s) if in a head coaching role
- Develops and adheres to an efficient and technically appropriate conditioning and injury prevention and treatment program
- Develops in conjunction with the Principal/Athletic Director an efficient system for equipment accountability
- Establishes a working rapport with and is directly responsible to the Principal/Athletic Director
- Adheres to all district and school policies regarding the athletic program
- Strives to build good sportsmanship among players coaches and fans
- Models good sportsmanship and always enforces sportsmanlike behavior among the players
- Establishes good public relations in the school and community
- Coaches individual participants in the fundamental and advanced skills necessary to develop their full potential in the sport involved
- Demonstrates ability to motivate the team and individual players
- Commands respect of the players
- Instills a positive attitude towards self team and sport on the part of individual players
- Communicates personal and program expectations to team and to individual players
- Develops a firm fair and consistent discipline system for the team and for individual players
- Follows proper procedures in handling discipline problems
- Cooperates with maintenance staff transportation staff and others who are involved in supporting the athletic program
- Drafts and submits a budget for the sports needs for the coming year
- Arranges for contacts with appropriate college recruiters for players
- Demonstrates a positive attitude towards and enthusiasm for coaching assignment
- Ensures coaching staff has completed all required trainings of the district and TSSAA
- Maintains eligibility forms emergency data cards insurance records equipment inventory and other related records related to the sport and athletes
- Attends clinics workshops and professional organizations as related to coaching area
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent
Supervisory Capacity: Supervises students as designated on the team roster. Will supervise assistant coaches and student athletes at practices and during competitions.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
- Athletic court athletic locker room and facilities on a school campus
- Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is
- regularly required to talk or hear.
- required to stand; walk; run; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
- Regularly move about inside the classroom/school
- Demonstrated ability to teach and model fundamental basketball skills including passing shooting dribbling rebounding defensive positioning footwork and overall game execution.
- Must be able to run short distances and participate in light physical activity with players when needed
- Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds
