Summary:
Under general supervision maintain repair and install electrical systems services andequipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of allelectrical fixtures and systems in district facilities. This position is available at two levels Journeyman Electrician (Maintenance Technician III) and Master Electrician (MaintenanceTechnician IV) based on licensure and experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
Install and repair wiring electrical fixtures power equipment and components ofmachinery and equipment following electrical code manuals specifications schematicsand blueprints.
Install and repair control and distribution apparatus including motors relays switchesthermostats circuit-breaker panels etc.
Install and connect power supply wiring cables conduit and electrical apparatus formachines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams schematicsor blueprints.
Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits systems and equipment usingtesting instruments and equipment.
Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components usingtesting instruments.
Measure cut bend thread assemble and install electrical conduit using measuringdevices hand tools pipe threader and conduit bender.
Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances including commercial ovensranges steam tables washers dryers etc.
Receive and complete work orders.
Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
Maintain inventory of district-owned tools equipment and materials.
Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
Detect needed repairs on buildings grounds and equipment following establishedinspection procedures.
Respond to emergency calls as needed.
SAFETY
Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties includinglifting climbing etc.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are notcorrectable to supervisor immediately.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. Must possess a valid Arkansas drivers license.
Candidates must hold one of the following:
Journeyman Electrician (Maintenance Technician III): Minimum five years of experiencein the electrical field with knowledge of local state and national electrical codeselectrical circuits and wiring and operating principles of motors. Valid Arkansas
Journeyman Electricians License required.
Master Electrician (Maintenance Technician IV): Minimum ten years of experience in theelectrical field with comprehensive knowledge of local state and national electricalcodes NFPA standards all aspects of electrical circuits and wiring and operatingprinciples of motors. Valid Arkansas Master Electricians License required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenanceinstructions procedure manuals electrical codes blueprints schematics and written referencematerial. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numberscommon fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in writtenoral and diagram form. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems involving several variables andin standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be comfortable working at heights in excess of 10 feet. Must be able to use necessaryequipment including: multi-meter ohmmeter oscilloscope and testing equipment; solderingiron; wire puller; pipe bender and threader; hand and power tools (saw drill etc.); trencher;jackhammer; concrete saw; ladder.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonableaccommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essentialfunctions.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit walk standlisten and hear for extended periods. Frequent climbing stooping bending kneeling andreaching is required. Ability to frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds andoccasionally up to 90 pounds is expected. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions aroundelectrical power lines outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures; frequent district-wide travel.
