Terms of Employment
This FLSA exempt position (salaried non-hourly) is on a work calendar of 215 days per school year.
Primary Purpose
- Serves as the specific schools academic officer with broad day to day responsibility and accountability for the schools educational operations.
- Directly supervise the staff at their assigned campus.
- Directly responsible for the implementation of curriculum that is vertically and horizontally aligned and that instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all students.
- Responsible for ensuring that student learning and experience drive day to day instruction.
- Responsible for implementing an advanced academic program for all students incorporating Core Knowledge in accordance with ACAs Charter.
- Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service.
- Oversee compliance with district policies success of instructional programs and operation of all campus activities.
Education/Certification
- Masters degree
- Texas principal or other appropriate Texas administrative certificate
- ESL certification preferred
- Certified T-TESS appraiser
- Reading Academy certificate preferred
Experience
- Three years educational leadership experience preferred
- Principal or assistant principal experience preferred
- Administrative experience at the district level may substitute for campus leadership experience
- Three years experience in instructional leadership roles preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Organizational Management and Improvement
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director of Schools and Executive Director of Academics in achieving the Board of Directors mission vision and goals.
- Communicate effectively with students staff parents and community; project a positive image that enhances the schools mission.
- Ensure that instructional programs are in place that will retain and attract families supportive of the mission and vision of ACA.
- Ensure appropriate management of all resources including fiscal and human resources.
- Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
- Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning operation supervision and evaluation of the campus education program. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.
- Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of the schools mission.
- Identify analyze and apply research findings to promote school improvement.
- Develop and set annual campus performance objectives for each of the Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and site-based decision making committee.
- Develop maintain and use information systems and records necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each Academic Excellence Indicator.
Academic Management
- Coordinate and oversee district level academic and/or special services programs as designated by the Executive Director of Academics or Executive Director of Schools.
- Perform periodic evaluations of all academic programs and operations to determine improvements required.
- Select develop implement and monitor the schools curriculum consistent with the mission and vision of ACA in consultation with the Executive Director of Schools Executive Director of Academics site-based decision making committee and faculty.
- Prepare reports evaluating the effectiveness of academic programs policies and curricula.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and TEA policies.
- Ensure that the educational staff develops programs services and projects that incorporate instructional differentiation and flexibility.
- Ensure that the ACA curriculum is vertically and horizontally aligned.
- Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
- Provide for two-way communication with administration staff students parents and community.
- Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognize excellence and achievement.
- Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
Professional Growth and Development
- Strive to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
- Keep abreast of current issues in education; participate in professional and personal development opportunities to enhance ACA.

Personnel Management
- Directly supervise and assign all staff positions on the assigned campus.
- Demand high standards of performance through effective personnel guidance training and supervision of educational staff.
- Apply state and ACAs appraisal systems appropriately and ensure that evaluations clearly and accurately represent staff performance.
- Work and confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth and assist in developing improvement goals. Encourage personal and professional growth and leadership among staff.
- Clearly define expectations of staff regarding instructional strategies classroom management and communication with parents and community members.
- Encourage personal and professional growth and leadership among staff.
- Ensure that educational staff is trained in instructional methods consistent with ACAs Charter and Statement of Philosophy vision and mission.
- Mediate and facilitate effective resolution of conflicts in a timely manner.
- Interview select and orient new staff. Approve all personnel assigned to campus.
- Observe employee performance record observations and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
- Make recommendations to the Executive Director of Schools on termination suspension or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.
- Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.

Management of Fiscal Administrative and Facilities Functions
- Comply with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
- Develop campus budgets based on documented program needs estimated enrollment personnel and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control. Accurately report fiscal information.
- Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
- Manage use of school facilities. Supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean orderly and safe campus.
Student Management
- Work with faculty and students to implement a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate. Ensure its equitable administration.
- Work with educational staff to implement a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances school climate.
- Effectively develop and communicate to students staff and parents school guidelines for student conduct.
- Effectively conduct conferences with parents students and educational staff concerning school and student issues.
- Adjudicate all student disciplinary matters until and appeal is brought before the Executive Director of Schools.
- Work with educational staff and appropriate agencies to plan and implement support services for students.
- Create and maintain a student handbook in consultation with the site-based decision making committee; ensure that the handbook guidelines are implemented.
- Implement ACAs admission process.
- Develop student retention strategies and monitor their effectiveness.
School or Community Relations
- Support activities with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) officers which benefit ACA students and staff.
- Represent ACA to other school systems or community groups.
- Promote community support of the school and identify community resources and social services that support education and child development.
- Oversee student participation in extracurricular events.
- Articulate the schools mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Support of ACAs Mission
- Adhere to ACAs Charter and Statement of Philosophy Vision and Mission Bylaws and Policies.
- Provide information as necessary to help the Executive Director of Schools Director of Academics or the Board of Directors carry out their responsibilities.
- Inform the Executive Director of Schools and/or the Director of Academics of identified needs or issues.
- Make recommendations on matters of policy organization educational staff and other academic functions of ACA to the Director of Academics and/or the Executive Director of Schools.
- Participate in general board meetings.
- Enforce all ACA policies under purview of the Principal.
- Exercise sound judgment in matters not specifically covered by adopted policy.
- Prepare and recommend short and long term academic plan(s) in conjunction with the Executive Director of Schools the Executive Director of Academics and the site-based decision making committee.
- Propose new policies pertaining to educational matters to the Policy Committee.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to the campus including but not limited to assistant principal(s) teacher(s) counselor(s) librarian(s) instructional aide(s) clerical support staff maintenance workers and custodians as applicable to the campus staff.
