Job Summary
Job Description
A leading organisation is seeking a dedicated Technician in Fibre Operations to join their high-performing team. This role is responsible for maintaining repairing and fault-finding on fibre networks to ensure optimal uptime and service delivery in line with strict Service Level Agreements.
Responsibilities:
- Execute maintenance and repair work across all allocated fibre routes ensuring minimal downtime
- Perform fault finding testing and analysis of fibre optic networks including OTDR trace interpretation
- Conduct route patrols network audits and ensure accurate record-keeping of all maintenance activities
- Respond to call-outs and provide 24-hour standby support as required including shift work
- Coordinate planned maintenance and ensure cost-effective repair methods are applied
- Maintain fibre assets tools test equipment and vehicle stock levels
- Compile detailed reports including root cause analysis and break reports
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety standards and conduct regular audits
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders on progress and resolutions
- Support other technology areas such as IP Voice Transmission and Facilities when required
Requirements:
- Grade 12 (essential)
- Certificate or equivalent experience in fibre maintenance/operations (essential)
- FOA (Fibre Optic Association) certification (advantageous)
- Minimum 3 years experience in a telecommunications or metro fibre environment
- Strong knowledge of fibre optic cable maintenance practices fibre characteristics and network protocols
- Proficiency in fibre testing splicing and fault identification across metro and access networks
- Strong communication problem-solving and report-writing skills
- Ability to work under pressure independently and within a team
- Willingness to work shifts and be on standby
