About the role
Reporting to the VP Treasurer and Head of Capital Planning this role influences enterprise capital strategy shapes capital policy and leads high-impact initiatives spanning capital deployments (dividends share buybacks growth investments) and balance sheet optimization including collaboration on tax-efficient structures while supporting enterprise capital planning. Success requires close partnership across Finance Actuarial Risk ALM and the Business Groups along with the ability to elevate a high-performing actuarial and finance team. The role delivers clear decision-ready analysis for senior forums and represents the organization in key capital discussions with regulators.

What youll be doing
Leadership & Enterprise Influence
- Provide strategic leadership to advance enterprise capital priorities translating enterprise objectives into clear execution plans and outcomes.
- Build lead and elevate a highperforming actuarial team fostering a performancedriven collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Finance and senior leaders contributing to enterprise decisionmaking and longterm value creation.
- Partner closely with Business Groups Corporate Actuarial Corporate Finance Global ALM Corporate Risk Corporate Development and Corporate Strategy to ensure consistent consideration of capital in strategic decisions.
Capital Deployments & Strategic Initiatives
- Lead analysis and recommendations for recurring and strategic capital deployments including dividends share buybacks and growth investments.
- Incorporate earnings and tax considerations in partnership with Corporate Tax and other stakeholders into recommendations for strategic capital deployments and initiatives.
- Serve as a subjectmatter expert on strategic initiatives requiring capital including M&A new entities or markets and organic growth investments.
- Recommend funding strategies (e.g. debt issuance) and costofcapital / hurdle rate frameworks to support capital allocation decisions.
Capital Optimization & Balance Sheet Analysis
- Lead initiatives to improve balance sheet efficiency capital fungibility quality of capital and related enterprise metrics.
- Advance the analysis understanding and reporting of capital composition flows and performance across the organization.
- Support reinsurance investment tax and other capital optimization initiatives as required.
Governance Risk and Regulatory Engagement
- Lead the annual review of the Capital and Liquidity Management Framework and Capital Risk Policy including oversight of related business group guidelines.
- Recommend enterprise capital targets and methodologies including LICAT operating targets and FMM capital allocations.
- Monitor capital regulatory developments across jurisdictions and ensure proactive incorporation into policies and planning.
- Lead capital-related discussions with regulators (including OSFI) supporting approvals for plans and strategic initiatives.
Planning Reporting & Executive Communication
- Support execution of the enterprise Capital Plan including integration of deployments and optimizations and secondline oversight of business group submissions.
- Ensure integrity and clarity of quarterend management Board and external capital reporting for Corporate Capital & Treasury.
- Lead the modernization of capital messaging metrics and reporting processes to improve clarity consistency and executive usability.
- Perform ad-hoc strategic capital analysis and support senior executive and Board discussions as required.
What youll need to succeed
- Qualified actuary (FCIA or FSA) Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Accountant (CPA) with 10 years of insurance or financial services experience
- Proven enterprise leadership capability including experience building developing and leading highperforming teams in complex matrixed environments
- Strong collaborator and influencer with demonstrated ability to partner effectively across Finance Actuarial Risk ALM Business Groups and senior leadership to drive outcomes
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex capital and financial analysis into clear decisionready insights for executive management Boards and regulators
- Solid knowledge of insurance capital frameworks (including IFRS 17 and LICAT) and/or other regulatory regimes across jurisdictions where Sun Life operates
- Excellent judgment and written and verbal communication skills with experience supporting executive discussions and engaging with external stakeholders

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
