Design Manager Transmission & Distribution (T&D)

Overview

We are one of Australia and New Zealands largest essential infrastructure services providers partnering with major energy utilities to design deliver and maintain critical assets that keep communities connected. As part of our continued growth in the energy transition sector we are seeking an experienced Design Manager Transmission & Distribution (T&D) to lead and govern complex design packages across high-voltage transmission and distribution projects.

Responsibilities

As a Design Manager you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of primary and secondary design outputs across a portfolio of T&D projects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing end-to-end design delivery across HV transmission and distribution projects including substations lines and associated infrastructure.
  • Providing technical leadership across primary and secondary electrical design disciplines.
  • Ensuring design solutions comply with client standards regulatory requirements and Australian Standards.
  • Managing internal and external design teams consultants and engineering partners.
  • Overseeing design schedules budgets risks and change control processes.
  • Acting as the key technical interface with clients utilities and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting constructability commissioning and handover phases through effective design coordination.
  • Driving continuous improvement in design processes quality and safety.

Qualifications

We are looking for a technically strong engineering leader with proven experience managing complex T&D design scopes within Australias regulated electricity networks. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong experience in Transmission & Distribution design management within the Australian energy sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership across HV substation and/or line design projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of utility standards grid connection requirements and safety-in-design principles.
  • Experience managing design risk assurance and governance frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or progression toward it (desirable).

Day-to-Day

On a daily basis you will:

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to deliver high-quality design solutions.
  • Engage with utility clients and project stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical requirements and project objectives.
  • Monitor and manage project timelines budgets and risks to ensure successful delivery.
  • Review and approve design documentation to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with construction and commissioning teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in design management.
