The Opportunity:
The Resident Advisor (RA) for the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Universitys Prescott campus plays a critical role in fostering a supportive and inclusive living environment for high school students enrolled in the program for six weeks during the summer session. The RA is responsible for promoting academic success personal growth and community engagement among program participants through mentorship guidance and program facilitation.
The tentative planned dates for the Summer Program of Upward Bound are June 8th July 18th 2026
Mandatory training for this position is scheduled May 26th through June 5th 2026 (off on Memorial Day Friday May 29th and Friday June 5th. All Weekends during program dates off except for Move in Night scheduled for Sunday June 7th.
Responsibilities:
- Teacher Support: Assist instructors in classroom settings by recording attendance providing academic support to students facilitating small group discussions or activities reinforcing lesson concepts and ensuring a productive learning environment.
- Student Support: Provide guidance mentorship and support to a group of high school students participating in the Upward Bound Program. Assist students in adjusting to the college environment developing study skills and setting academic and personal goals.
- Program Facilitation: Assist in planning organizing and facilitating academic and enrichment activities workshops and events designed to enhance students educational experiences personal development and exposure to various career paths within the aeronautical and aviation fields.
- Community Building: Foster a positive and inclusive community within the residential environment. Organize community-building activities discussions and events that encourage cross-cultural understanding teamwork and social interaction among program participants.
- Crisis Management: Serve as a responsible and dependable point of contact for students in case of emergencies or concerns. Follow established protocols for addressing medical emotional and other crises and communicate effectively with program coordinators and appropriate university personnel.
- Policy Enforcement: Enforce program and university policies within the residential community ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. Address any violations or behavioral issues in a fair and consistent manner while promoting a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
- Role Model: Demonstrate professionalism integrity and strong interpersonal skills to serve as a positive role model for students. Exhibit a commitment to educational attainment personal growth and responsible decision-making.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other Resident Advisors program staff and university departments to coordinate programming efforts share best practices and contribute to the overall success of the Upward Bound Program.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of student interactions incidents and program activities. Provide regular updates and reports to program coordinators as required.
Out-of-State Trip: Week 6th of the Upward Bound Program
As part of the enriching experience offered by the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Universitys Prescott campus an out-of-state trip is organized during the sixth week of the program. This trip is designed to broaden participants horizons expose them to college campuses in an adjacent state and provide hands-on learning opportunities that align with the programs educational objectives.
During the sixth week of the Upward Bound Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Universitys Prescott campus RAs take on the crucial role of chaperoning a program trip. As chaperones RAs are responsible for ensuring the safety well-being and engagement of program participants during all activities. They maintain adherence to schedules provide guidance during interactions and discussions and respond effectively to any emergent situations. RAs serve as approachable mentors facilitating meaningful connections between experiences and personal growth and fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere throughout the trip.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Enrolled as a full-time student as a sophomore junior or senior in college or a recent graduate of college.
- Strong communication interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate and enforce program policies and university rules to program participants.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students from diverse backgrounds.
- Responsible dependable and able to handle challenging situations with maturity.
- Prior experience in mentoring counseling or residential life is a plus.
- Passion for education community building and youth development.
- Strong leadership AND followership skills.
- SSS TRIO or Upward Bound current or past involvement a strong PLUS
Compensation:
This is a full-time non-exempt position. Compensation includes a stipend for the six-week Summer Session in the amount of $2800.00 on-campus housing and a meal plan during work hours on Monday through Friday for the duration of the Upward Bound Program.
